tenbear wrote: My Dutchman Express is the same as the Four Winds 5000, just a different name. The switch beside the generator controls is the water heater switch. The heater runs on propane and uses 12v for the control. It does NOT have romex going to it. Maybe yours has a 120v water heater???

Great picture. In my 4winds the water heater switch is above the Gen switch. The mystery switch is located in the same place as your water heater switch. Thanks for the effort though!!!!

Could be the previous owner replaced the original water heater with a 12/120v heater and put in the mystery switch. On the other hand it could be almost anything. Looks like you are going to have to get your hands dirty.

My '00 4winds 5000 has the generator and water heater switches in the same place as tenbears Dutchmen.
The water heater switch glows red when initially turned on. I don't know what it does after that because we turn it off when the water's hot: it only takes a few minutes to heat and we don't use that much because it's so hot.

The red light comes on while the heater is trying to ignite. As soon as the heater is running, the light goes off. Like you, we turn ours off when we have enough hot water. However, too often I would forget and leave the heater on since there is no visual indication that the heater is on. I modified the heater switch so there is now a green light whenever the heater is turned on. I don't forget it nearly as often.
