I was hoping someone with a fourwinds 5000 could help me out here. I have a 28A. There is a switch located to the left of the generator switch. It has romex going to it, looks like a household light switch, and illuminates red when on. I have no clue what it does, but I hope its not a selfdestruct switch because my 2yearold has discovered it. Just hoping to save myself some time before I go digging around to try and following the wires. Thanks!-Travis

If it glows when you ARE NOT plugged into shore power, my first impression would be that it might be for an inverter. Do you have an inverter to supply AC power when running off batteries?
If it glows ONLY when you ARE PLUGGED into shore power, or running the generator, my thought would be that it is for tank heat to keep your holding tanks from freezing. I have a red rocker switch, which illuminates when my tank pads are on, and which is located next to the generator control panel. Are there pads affixed to your holding tanks with wires going to them?

I have a 06 Four Winds 5000 24T. My tank heater switches are on the wall next to the rear corner bed. My battery disconnect switch is on the side of the cabinet in the door entry. I have a switch on my dash that will send power to the engine battery to jump start it if it is low.
I know that different floor models are set up differently, but that switch could control one of those items.

I have a four winds 21rb........that switch in mine next to the generator is the hot water heater on off switch.........glows red when first turned on and lighting off.....hope that helps

Different brand, but in ours the wall switch that looks like household is the 120VAC for the water heater. It's in a duplex outlet plate with the red indicator in the second hole. And marked Water Heater 120 VAC. Then there's the water heater switch to light LP with 12VDC. Glows red all the time it's ON, with a small red "dot" next to it that goes out when it lights successfully.
The tank heaters switch is in the bathroom, looks like an RV switch, lights red, and it's not marked. Our tank heaters are 12VDC.

There are a number of possibilities but it could be one of those already mentioned or it could be a lock out switch that doesn't allow both the AC and the Microwave to run at the same time with the generator running.

That may be it, I will check. It only illuminates when on shorepower or gen.

Thanks Dave but it's not one of those, maybe the tank heater though. But I would think that Tank heaters would also work off of 12v power otherwise inless you run the generator all night long or are pluged in the tanks would freeze, doesn't make much sense to me 80% of the time we have no hookups when we camp in the snow.

My Dutchman Express is the same as the Four Winds 5000, just a different name. The switch beside the generator controls is the water heater switch. The heater runs on propane and uses 12v for the control. It does NOT have romex going to it. Maybe yours has a 120v water heater???

If it is a 120 v heater, don't turn it on when it is empty or you might (will probably) burn out the heater.
