Hi Folks, Can anyone recommend a company that provides US Health Insurance for Canadians at a reasonable rate?
We're in Florida for a couple of months. It is costing my wife and I $45 each for 21 days in Florida. We need to extend our time here for another 6 weeks and looking for something cheaper as we thought this seems to be expensive.
We are 47 years of age if that is required for any insurance companies someone might recommend.

Hmm I thought Canada had Health Care for all its citizens. Are you sayin they wont pay "out of Country" claims?

Canada has health care for all its citizens when we are in Canada. Canadian Health Insurance will not pay much of a medical claim when we travel out of the country. For this, travel insurance is often purchased.
To the OP, you may find that for an extension of your present travel insurance, you will have to stick with your present company. We use the Snowbird Medipac Insurance, and unless this is your present carrier, Medipac requires that travel insurance is purchased while still in Canada. I am not sure about other health insurance companies.

$45 for 21 days sounds pretty reasonable to me for a 47 year old in the states! Much rather have that coverage than what you get up North.

Hi,
The Scotia Bank has a visa gold card that includes health coverage while traveling. There is a yearly fee for the card.

Well If I were you I would quickly phone back to Ontario to OAA or somewhere like that,if you think you can get cheaper Ins. in he States,good luck!!!

That cost appears to me to be pretty reasonable. Heck, Medicare insurance for us old folks is "clear up" to $99.90 per month while your cost is about $67 per month. I realize that this price is pretty high for a person from Canada who doesn't directly pay for his health insurance, but if you would take the time to find out how much you are paying for your health care, in the form of additional taxes in Canada, you would think the price you are currently paying here is "dirt" cheap. Having said that, really don't know what your insurance for $45 covers so it might not be cheap when you consider the deductibles and co-pays.

Canadians have health insurance anywhere in the world for up to the cost that the procedure would cost in Canada. If it exceeds that the user pays the difference or you can opt for private travel insurance that will pay the difference for you.
The province may limit the time you are covered when out of the country unless pre-arranged with the province. Most are 6 months and one up to 7 months without informing them of being away longer. Most will allow up to two years out of province if arranged prior, some longer.
If a Canadian is out of their province longer than what the provinces health insurance guide lines allow they can opt for full coverage private insurance commonly known as ex-patriot insurance.

Check the fine print on the credit card coverage....some only cover to a maximum amount and some only cover for a short period. IIRC the Scotia Bank has the longest, covering travel up to 31 days.
