Yep, FraZier Park is buttoned up for the winter. Gorman is the only choice until May. If you like the beach, all of the ones just north of town are good.
casitas and Cachuma are always good.
One I would like to try is Malibu State Park. Malibu Cyn just south of Hwy 101. Never been there but looks good from the air.
We're spoiled out here, so many choices.
Have fun.

My choice would be Red Rock, Mojave, Anza-Borrego and Joshua Tree. And if you have time, I would go to Death Valley as the weather is more pleasant this time of the year. Have a Great Trip!

Malibu Creek is ok

but Sycamore Canyon at Point Mugu is way more fun. it can get crowded but the hiking, Mt Biking and the Beaches make it way fun

Silver Strand State Beach in South San Diego. Quiet this time of year. Coronado a few miles down the road. You may get to see some good looking Navy SEALs doing their exercise (for your wife's enjoyment).

Silver Strand

Cheers!
