Wanted to know if any workcampers use popups or Aliners? If so any advice in that area? Don't have eather presently but have been thinking of going that route. Thanks bob and jackie

I have a friend who worked at "Trail of Tears" state park in Missouri and used his pop up trailer as his residence while there. It's certainly not unheard of but certainly not the MOST used RV for the purpose. As long as you can feel comfortable in the available space there is no reason NOT to do it.
He DID tell me of the time a thunder storm brought down a giant tree and it fell on his pop up, crushing the roof, but he wasn't in the trailer at the time. for what it's worth, there are a LOT of RVs that wouldn't have withstood that hit much better.

AS a workamper, your camper is the primary residence. Cutting corners and going too small will take it's toll over time. Having a bathroom, large kitchen, bedroom and lots of storage is the main reason for a larger unit. Maybe for the short term but like us who have been full time/workamping over 6 years...the space and storage is needed.

I've done extended travel (avg 200+ nights/yr) in a big 4 seasons Lance 1121 truck camper w/one slide for 8 years. I've hauled it on a Ford F-350 dually and averaged 27,000 miles per year during that time. Full-timing in it the past 2 years, my mileage has dropped to about 12,000/yr.
The small size, 19' fully self-contained, sitting in the bed makes it perfect for getting around practically anywhere, open campground or not. Yet it can be off loaded at a campground using electric jacks and the truck used as a daily driver. While it has served me well, I have exactly 1 year, 5 months, and 25 days until full retirement and a major 'needs' change. At that time, I'll switch to a fiver in the 32' range. Space and storage does become a factor and I'd like to still be able to get into most government parks.

We were at a park last year where the camp host had a Class B van and a tent room beside it. Not what I would choose but it apparently worked for her so I see no reason that a popup wouldn't work if that's what best fits your lifestyle.

When I was at Bastrop State Park (Texas) in 2008, a part host hosted in an A Liner...she was a school teacher...she spent her time writing lesson plans for the park...the Ranger who was in charge of Volunteer Selection did a great job...we had a schedule...she kept in touch...I certainly enjoyed my time there...

We had a workkamper last winter in north Florida. Nights were in the 30's, they were doing alright. Last summer we worked with a fellow fulltiming in a 16 ft Casita and presently working with another in a Lance TC no slide.

The present full time Camp Hosts at Killens Pond State Park in Delaware. They are doing fine, even with night time temps in the 20's...and soon to be colder.
