A good option to Myrtle Beach(unless you like amusement park aspect) is Huntington Beach State Park. It is about 20 miles south of MB in Murells Inlet. Shady campsite W/E, a few with sewer. A mile of unspoiled beach.

We liked the sites around the lake. Site 709 is shady and one of the biggest ones in the park.

I think it's just personal preference. We prefer the oceanfront sites, regardless of the time of year. The dogs stay inside with the AC on, or in the shade of the awning, if it's very hot. We've got friends who like the shaded sites in the summer, but to us the bugs always seem worse there.

If you don't mind lugging all your beach gear a LONG way down to the water (there is no parking down there) and it will give you peace of mind, then stay in the shaded sites. Otherwise you can leave the dog in the camper with the a/c on or in the shade if it's not too hot out. That early in the year it shouldn't be blazing hot yet.

For us it's the oceanfront. Actually cooler out on the beach. you get the better breeze. the trees block it. also. 1st week in June. It should be very comfortable. The really hot weather will not have hit yet.

We will be there the 1st week of june also we stay in sites 516-537 along the lake not a bad walk to the ocean and the wind is not as bad and you have more space in these sites if you want all shade then you will have to go with sites 576-713 we dont like them but its in the woods so to speak

If you have a bike, get a trailer for it at Walmart. We did this at Topsail down at Destin and it worked great.
