You could take off the tailgate, install one of those nets across, and you would reduce weight too! Probably as effective and less expensive. Use of mesh was the best. The next best was tailgate up. No tailgate at all, tailgate down and fiberglass lid on the bed were all about the same, but poorer mileage than the first two. Some people say they still like to run tailgate down because it blocks the view of camaras at intersections. Best thing you can do is shape your rig like a jet airplane. But I like my factory tailgate with Truxedo cover. When i'm not towing, nobody knows whats in my bed. Grocerys, generator, tools.etc. And mythbusters did say better milage with cover.
