We love Camping on the Gulf..Been going there since the 70's..It is a little tight in some areas..Remember, this is privately owned and operated park that has to make money and use of all available space to do so..It is not a government run park that is responsible to no one..I prefer to support capitalism..Have a great trip..

Camping on the Gulf is a great rv park, one of our favorites, and we are going back in May. It is a little tight in spots, but the management and staff are very friendly and helpful. Location. Location. Location. With full hookups, and a short walk from your rv to the beach is unbeatable. Think what an ocean view hotel room on the beach would cost, and this park is a great bargain. Very secure park, with guard at the gate. DW loves the Outlets accross the street. Lots of restaurants nearby.

Thank you everyone for your helpful responses. This seems to be the MOST effective way to judge our destination. (unless ofcourse we've been there before) Be safe and enjoy 2012! Tommy

Looking at the pictures it appears the lots further away from the beach actually have grass and are bigger. This park is one that we are thinking about going to in May.

We have stayed numerous times at Camping on the Gulf and loved it. There are many activities for the kids and it is the only campground directly on the beach. The facilities have always been very clean and there are enough work campers to maintain everything. The sites may be tight but we never had any problems. You will be accompanied to your site by the staff so parking is not really a problem.
It is one of the most expensive parks we have ever stayed in but it is worth the price to us. Florida has strict laws pertaining to pets and the beach (no dogs allowed on the beach) and the campground strictly enforces the law. Speeding is not allowed in the campground which means I probably won't be mowed down while walking around. Yes, there is sand and you will get it in your RV!

Stayed there regularly from 1971 to '74. Nice isolated beach area. About a 12 mile drive through a, mostly, deserted area to the nearest grocery store in downtown Destin. Campsites are a little pricey. Beachfront sites are $9/night which is the most I can remember paying anywhere.

Sandestin resort development is under construction although the future looks bleak. I hear Chase Manhattan is about to foreclose.

By the way, the name is actually Holiday Inn Campground.

I'm surprised by all the negative comments about Camping on the Gulf in this thread. Are the spaces tight? You bet. But, you trailer wheels are sitting in white sand too if you get a beach front site. You can sit out behind your trailer with your toes in the sand and watch the sunrise and sunset. We love it!

It is the most expensive camping we've done, but it was also the only place we found where we can be right on the beach as well.

I drove through Topsail and it is a beautiful park. Great sites. Lots of trees. The only downside was that the beach was a half mile walk away. Great camping, but not beach camping in my opinion. Much cheaper and very nice though. Lot of activities and friendly folks when we stopped in.

Different strokes for different folks. For me, Camping on the Gulf is like having a beach house. Kids playing in the sand while I make meals. Perfect!
