When we bought our Cyclone last year in May, we towed it home and pulled it on one trip with my '09 F350 6.4L SRW. I was very pleased with how the truck pulled the 18,000 lbs. of camper, toys, and water. The ONLY reason I sold it and bought a new 450 is because our Cyclone has an extremely heavy pin weight. It was almost 1000 lbs. overweight on the truck's rear axle and that scared me for the future. Right now, I'm just over 28,000 lbs. combined with a full load.

My 450 pulls great. But way better than the old 6.4? No. They both would cruise down the interstate with the Cyclone at 70mph with no problems. They both climbed hills well.

The real advantage the 6.7 has over the 6.4 is fuel economy; especially when not towing.

But I truly believe we're at the point that power increases are just silly. How much more do we need? Is it just a selling point for guys with manhood issues?

Keep the trucks at 400/800 and work on the dependability and fuel economy from here on.

I find it interesting that you went to a F450. I guess the F450 would have the more torque you say your not after with the 4.30 gears but according to the Ford brochure the F350 DRW is rated at 13000 kg and the F450 is rated at 13050 kg. If the F450 ends up being any heavier then the F350 (due to the little bigger axle and bigger brakes) the payload would likely be the same. The F350 with the 3.73 rear axle should give you your better fuel economy and the fewer revs/mile that the engine makes might contribute to the longevity you're after. Probably not a big deal either way but it just kind of made me wonder. There is probably differences in the two trucks that I am not aware of.

I bought the 450 for two main reasons.

1. I "assumed" it just had a higher payload rating. Bad assumption.

2. Ironically, our big dealer typically carries more 450s than 350s when it comes to duallys. They had ten 450s and three 350 duallys. Much better selection.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The 4.30 rear end in my 450 is total overkill. I would be quite happy with a 4.10 or even a 3.73 with this truck. My '09 350 6.4L with the 3.73 pulled this same camper quite well on the interstates.

Hindsight can be a bear sometimes.

OUr 2010 6.4 towed our 15,000lb 5th just fine. Even over the mountains out here on the west coast. But the 2011 does do a bit better. Both are basically the same truck, but the 2011 is a dually with 6 speed. It gets a bit better fuel economy all around.

While the new F450s have the same load capacity as a F350 dually they are rated higher for towing capacity. One of the advantages of the F450 is the tighter turning radius. The other is the larger brakes. I'm not convinced the price difference between a comparable F350 is worth that though.

My 450 will indeed turn on a dime. Far better than my 350 SRW did. Go figure.

As for price difference, they were very close at the dealership. Maybe $2000 at most. But with the 350s better fuel economy gearing, that's tempting.

If you were to install a Spartan or H&S tuner you would have allot more power than what the new ones put out. And likely get better fuel economy as well.

I'd like to know how in the world would there be a material difference in fuel economy while the engine puts out more power.

Because with a tuner, the emissions controls can be turned off and removed. hence, an increase in fuel mileage.

And in the process, voiding the warranty.

That can add up in savings for Ford real fast.
