Due to a partially amputated foot, my walking is limited in distance/duration. Husband also has some residual issues from a stroke three years ago which cause some issues with walking extended time. We both have mobility scooters that we use for places like state fairs, large quilt shows, etc.

We need to go to Mexico for me to have dental implants. I've never been to Mexico even though I am from Texas. Friends have recommended their dentist in Progreso. I am wondering if I can use my mobility scooter to cross at the border...how to get thru the turnstiles, etc.

Anyone know if it is possible to take wheel chair or mobility scooters into Mexico?

You will not have any problems with the mobility scooters. Our friend always takes his.

You are welcome. You have come to the right place to get your questions answered.

Also you will not have to go through any turnstiles. They have other openings for scooters and wheel chairs or anyone who can not manuever the turnstiles.

You might want to go as early in the AM as you can. The sidewalks are crowded with vendors on the outside edge, stores have stuff on the inside edge in places in addition so it can be very crowded by the tourists get there by 10 AM or so.

Sidewalks are wooden- NARROW- and full of merchandise, people and kids (who should be in school). Be very carefull maneuvering through all of that and have a big lock to safeguard your equipment.

Happy trails,

The sidewalks are not wooden? Where did that come from?

Not so sure you need the big lock either. The people of Nuevo Progreso are very good to their visitors.

You may also consider driving over. Many people do. The tourist police will help you find a parking spot. They do appreciate a tip of about $2.00 & will watch your car.

Thank you for all responses/input. We are meeting with friends tonight who have done the Progreso dental business. Currently we do not have a rig - we sold ours in the fall of 2010 because we didn't think hubby would recover enough to be able to go. He has fooled us all, so we are in the market for a pre-owned A. We are not finding many "good" ones in our price range from which to choose so we are still looking. The Progreso trip will be the first trip we make before we head off on a one to two month trip to the NE.

We still have our 2008 Saturn Vue bought new to be the tow/retirement car. Just gotta find something to hook it to!

I sent you an email & PM re some good dentists we have used.

Also lots of used class A's down here. Look at RV park bullitin boards and in the Winter Texan Times paper.
