Thanks to all for the comments regarding my last post. (See "First Time RVers")

I have altered my plans and am now taking a southern route based on obvious reasons mentioned.

Here is my route in order as of now. I am still departing on March 1st from southern California in a 30' Class C one way rental. Still have 3 weeks of travel time & 5000 miles to work with.

1.Big Sur,CA
2.Sequoia National Park,CA
3.Joshua Tree,CA
4.Zion National Park,UT
5.El Morro,NM
6.Hinton,OK
7.Arkansas Area
8.Tallulah Gorge,GA
9.Virginia Area
9.Long Island,NY

Will take any advice or suggestions regarding campgrounds,route,weather,POI's,etc....

Thanks again.

Hinton OK has a nice campground - Red Rock that I stayed at once on my way back to my grandmother's hometown of Rogers Arkansas. Red Rock is about 15 miles south of I40.

I think I would want to see the California things while not making my way back east under a 3 or 4 week deadline. So I would save the Sequoia National Park for a time I can go there and return home after seeing the sights. It has very cool overnight temps in July, and when I was there in April 1991, there was a LOT of snow on the ground at 6,500' elevation, so I did not get to see many of the big trees. I was last there July 9 and 10, 2010, daytime was close to 105 in Fresno and 80 in Sequoia. I can only wonder how cold it will be in March.

Have you heard of Monument Valley? Canyon De Chelly? Those are things I would want to see on the way back east.

Branson MO, it is fairly close to Rogers AR. A few nice lakes in that area too, stayed there on the way back to Chicago in 2001, had a great time. May was pleasant temperatures. Don't know how cold it will be in March. Spring floods close bridges in that area too! Yet you should be before the big melt off that happened last year flooding large areas. This years snow pack is pretty small.

You will want to be very careful around Flagstaff AZ, 7,500' elevation, as they can get 25" of snow in one storm in March. Zion is really nice that time of year (unless a freak storm presents snow). Yet taking highway 89 to the south and east might present problems, I took that route last October without problems, and it was a nice drive to Monument Valley and Canyon De Chelley. I then went to Albuquerque for the hot air balloon fiesta from the 3rd to the 13th.

I would add New Orleans, Biloxi, and St. Augustine Florida to the southern loop. Beautiful and unique places.

Lake Catherine State Park in Hot Springs Arkansas. Beautiful!
Eureka Springs Arkansas is a neat little town. Nearby in Berryville AR is a city park. Basic site, full hookups with cable TV reasonable price.

I see you have Long Island, NY on your list. There are not too may campgrounds on the island and they would probably be closed in March and April. Middle of May is when most campgrounds in the Northeast open. If you picked Long Island just to visit New York City, it would not be worth the hassle of city traffic to get out on Long Island. Liberty Park in NJ is a popular place for RVs to spend the night while touring the city. We stayed in Florida, NY at Black Bear Campground in April a few years back. From there you can visit West Point and the Hudson River Valley and of course NYC. Tours of the city are offered in the summer months, not sure if in spring. There is also a KOA that some people on this forum recommend when visiting NYC.

See you on the road!

To those I would add Arches park in northeast Utah.

As to Long Island, I agree 100% with Mike&Rose.
