falconman wrote: Hi,
For the uninitiated Midwest/Northeastern USA area travelers (we haven't ventured east of the Mississippi yet with the rv), what does "UP" stand for?
Thanks!
Upper Peninsula of Michigan or "the thumb" (oops -got my nicknames wrong -not the thumb. Thanks michdoc!) - a nice area to tour in the summer.

Actually, the "Thumb" is not the Upper Peninsula. It's the far eastern part of the "Lower Peninsula" bordered on the left (west) by Saginaw Bay, and on the right (east) by Lake Huron. The Upper Peninsula is everything above the Straits of Mackinac (and the Mackinac Bridge), between Wisconsin on the southwest, Lake Michigan on the southeast, and Lake Superior on the north.

If you end up going to Bentonville, AR, there's a great COE park in Rogers. There are several around Beaver Lake but our favorite is Prairie Creek, it's close to town and has nice sites. I recommend sites 76 - 80, w&e with the dump close by. There's also Horseshoe Bend but it's much further out of town. With the Golden Access pass, it's 1/2 off, $10!

In going through all of the various posts we MIGHT make it back to Minnesota by....July? Looks like a lot of interesting sights to see, places to park the MH and best of all FOOD.
Red Shoes RV Park and Cafe des Amis has been mentioned more than a few times on the this post as well as others. On the 'to do' list now.
Time to do some 'googling'. Looks like we'll have some time tomorrow with the weather making a HUGE change. 80 today, 59 tomorrow.

Yeah, what's up with that?
Don't know what you got going back in MN, but we got snowed on in the MH in late April in Iowa last spring. I'm starting to wonder if the weather isn't changing where MN and that area get's nice falls, but pays for it in the spring time. Just something to think about. Either enjoy the ride back killing time and seeing stuff, or do a mad dash at the end and fire up the S&B's.
Also you'll be in tornado alley on the way home during early April. Nothing to really worry about, just a little wierd to hear for the first time about a "train" of tornado's are in the area when you're watching local TV.
No-body ever said snowbirding was easy

I've been looking at the weather history in the areas that we want to venture to. You can toss those 'averages' to the wayside. This winter has been anything but average. US high temp yesterday - Harlingen at 87. Snowfall in MN this winter 15". We had single snowfalls last year equal to that amount. Keeps us guessing.
'Tornado Alley' is the worrisome part of heading back north. Don't know an alternate route back to MN w/o going through the central part of the US .
We were about 15 miles east of Tampa last April when a tornado ripped through the air show there. RV's tipped on their sides and planes torn apart all in a matter of minutes. Keep an eye on the weather and be prepared.

We are presently at our first stop of our trip east. Goose Island State Park. We have a spot across the road from the bay. Good thing too. Back in the woods, the mosquitoes will carry you off . We decided to spend two weeks here so we will be at a private park when we leave GISP.
The 33rd Annual Fulton Oysterfest is going on here thru Sunday. A raw oyster eating contest (I'll pass on this) for men and women and oyster shucking contest. Music, food, drink, parade and did I mention a RAW oyster eating contest? LOL.

You do realize that next weekend starts Spring Break for most Texas schools and colleges? The coast is going to get invaded.
