If we wanted to visit a few Georgia State parks which do you think we would enjoy most? We are most interested in parks that are located near other attractions. We like to visit historic places, homes, unique sites, museums, touristy things are fine, not into fishing or shopping. Don't care about places to eat. We may also consider a camp host position. What parks do you think would be best for our interests? We like to stay busy. (We have been to Little White House area and Stone Mountain area already and would like to visit somewhere else). Thanks for any information you can offer.

Try Veteran's State Park in Cordele, about 10 miles off I-75. On Lake Blackshear (a very big lake), close to Andersonville, Plains, Providence Canyone, etc. Lots of history in that area....

Fort McAllister Historic Park is on our list. Haven't been there yet. It is a civil war fort on the river not too far from Savannah. Lots of history in that area...

I have been there and I agree. It was the site of Sherman's final victory or defeat depending on who is writing the history book.
F. D. Roosevelt S. P. at Pine Mountain, GA - visit Roosevelt's Little White House in Warm Springs. Also, Crooked River S. P. at St. Mary's, GA - take the ferry to Cumberland Island (lots of history there) and King's Bay sub base is there.

My vote is for Skidaway Island state park near Savannah, Ga. Lots of history in and around Savannah. I would give the park a 9 on a 1 to 10 rating. Easy in and out. nice sites, most are pull throughs. Some 50 amp sites.

x2 we had a great time at Skidaway and Savannah. Took a tour bus in Savannah and then walked, walked, and walked the city. Also visited some old plantations and such in the area. Savannah is real proud of Paula Dean and she has a nice store full of kitchen gadgets.
The park is nice with large sites and is a pleasant commute to the city.

Oh man, there are so many really good choices. Georgia really has a lot to offer visitors to their SPs. What do you like... costal... mountains, rolling hills? Do you want to visit a Georgia city... Atlanta, Augusta, Dalton, Rome, Savannah, Macon? Georgia has a lot to offer history buffs... do you want to see plantation homes, Civil War sites, American Indian historical sites, agricultural or industrial history?
We live in NW Georgia (Calhoun) right off I75. We can be in Atlanta, Rome, Dalton or Chattanooga within an hour drive. While we don't live *in* the mountains, we can drive east and be in the GA mountains or west and be in the Alabama mountains.
Georgia SPs we've enjoyed? Red Top Mountain, Cloudland Canyon, Ft Mountain, Vogel, Unicoi, Ft Yargo, Tugaloo, Hard Labor Creek... I don't think we've visited a Georgia SP yet where we haven't enjoyed *something*.
We're originally from the Augusta area... my wife has memories of camping at Mistletoe SP growing up. We've driven through James H "Sloppy" Floyd SP, kinda small, but has a nice lake... Amacalola Falls which is kinda small and has a steep drive to get into, but really nice area and close to Dahlonega... Moccasin Creek is nice with a small grassy camping area right on a mountain lake, but I remember last spring that area had a lot of tornado damage and I'm not sure if the campground sustained damages... it's been a long time since we drove through Magnolia Springs SP, but I remember it looking like a nice place to visit.
All the SPs we've visited offer electric/water sites... we've not visited any with sewer hookups, but all have had dump stations. Some offer cable, but have poor quality and limited choices. Some have small lakes with sandy beaches & swimming areas, and canoe & paddle boat rentals. Some have miniature golf and playgrounds for the kids... hiking trails and such. Some offer special outdoor nature activities (check the specific SP's website).
Be mindful when planning your trip... Georgia SPs reserve the "type of site" you need, not a specific site. If you show up late Friday evening... all the preferred sites will be occupied. Show up a little early to pick you favorite campsite.
I don't think you would go wrong picking any of the Georgia SPs.
