Type this into Google "washed clothes with crayons how to get out" and it will come up with several ways.

Goof Off or if the crayon is melted and localized, stick them in a bag and in the freezer for a few hours then pull out and the crayon should crackle off.
Staining will require more work, suggestions include Borax, toothpaste and of course the WD-40.

not checking the pockets before doing the laundry is almost criminal in this house hold. In fact my daughter years ago put up a sign on the cabinet above the washer. it says "check the pockets dumbie" But on the other side of the fence, the SIL should be complemented for trying to do the right thing.

If anybody in my household checked their pockets before I did the laundry I'd have to find another income source to replace the change/dollar bills I'd be missing out on...

I seem to remember something about ironing with an old piece of fabric against the crayon. Will have to look up in my book later

"I’ve got quite a bit of experience with this one. I’ll never forget the first time I looked in the dryer to see streaks of red crayon melted around the drum. To get rid of it, start with scraping off as much of the wax as you can. I like using a credit card because it doesn’t scratch the drum, but does a good job of removing dried on wax. Depending on how tough the wax is to remove, you might need to use a blow dryer to remove the wax. Hold the dryer 6 inches away from the drum. It will heat up the wax, allowing you to wipe it away. Next, you’ll need some WD-40. Spray it on a cloth and wipe at the waxed areas until the wax is gone. For your final step, use a mild detergent like dish soap or an all-purpose cleaner and warm water to do a final wipe down of the drum."

Retired from the Industrial Laundry field a few years ago and faced a (excuse the pun) laundry list of stains that had to be dealt with.
The best single item I ever used was a product called Jinx-ink. Its available at a commercial laundry product distributor only. It works very well on nearly any stain from ink to wax.

OK, from the World's Best Laundry Guru (that'd be my mother):
1. If the crayon is soft, freeze the fabric to harden the crayon and then gently scrape off the excess.
2. Place the stain face down on a thick pad of paper towels. Spray with WD-40 and let stand for a few minutes. Turn the fabric over and spray again with WD-40.
3. Apply liquid dishwashing detergent (Dawn, Palmolive, etc. – avoid generic brands) and work it thoroughly into the stain. Blot between pads of paper towels, replacing them with clean pads as the stain is absorbed.
4. Wash with oxygen bleach (Oxy-Clean is really good for stains) and the hottest water that's safe for the fabric. Rinse thoroughly in warm water. (May take a few rinsings to get all of the soap, WD & Oxy-Clean out of fabric)
5. Repeat steps 2 thru 4 until all stain is gone or stain will transfer onto other clothes in laundry on next washing.
6. DO NOT DRY UNTIL ALL STAIN IS GONE!

That's to get it out of the dryer. I think the OP wants to get it out of the clothes.

All of that above does seem like it would work, but man what a LOT of work. LOL I think i'd throw out the clothes and start from scratch. lol I'd do that on one item, but not sure I'd wanna do it on the entire load...trashcan here we come LOL
