My wife has more trouble gettin' around as her osteo arthrytis progresses. Wal-mart has those electric shopping carts provided for their customers. We'll be spending 3 months in Tampa Florida, I'd like to see some of the local sights. I don't want her to have to walk, do places like 'Bush Gardens' and other 'destinations' supply or rent carts like Wal-mart has?
I realize we may have to purshase a cart. Currently we use a Honda CRV as our toad. It's not ideal because of it's limited size, can't carry a cart. Any thoughts about a replacement toad that could accomodate a cart and still be towed 4-down? I'm thinkin' mini-van or similar?

Take a look at the "Travel Scooters" at the Scooter Store.
We have this one: Portable Scooter
It easily breaks down into 5 separate pieces, weighing no more than 20 pounds each, and will fit anywhere.
We got our ours, (bought it ourselves, no medicare,) two years ago when we were in Texas, and found the Scooter Store to be very good folks to work with. Best money we ever spent.
I have used it to travel to all types of attractions, including Mt. Rushmore, where there was NO WAY I could have walked.
Camping Rig:
2005 Dodge 3500 - Dually- Cummins
2006 Outback 27 RSDS
We also have with us two "fur babies". A Basset Hound and a Chihuahua mix. Both are rescue dogs.
Fulltimer since June 2006

Actually check with the campground and also the local yellow pages. More and more places that rent scooters are opening and that might be your best answer.

We have seen lots of people with CR-v's carry scooters in them. I think most will fit fine. Also, like one poster said, call the park and ask if they have mobility scooters for rent or to use, most parks do, even malls have wheel chairs.

I have a pride victory 3 wheel scooter - bigger than most since I use it on trails rather than pavement. It fits in our Grand Vitara with the seat off. We have a crane to take it in and out mounted on a trailer hitch. First thing is to figure out where you are going to use it - how long you are going on it (miles) - what you are comfortable on - need for lights and such. Then go try some. The only way to figure out if you can 'ride' in one is to use it.
We haven't had any problem using it in parks or buildings.

I rented one in Busch Gardens, Florida a few years back. I bought my own a couple years ago. I got a Ranger Solo. Tney are made in Iowa and are top quality. Mine breaks down to the aluminum frame with the front steering wheel, the drive portiom, 2 batteries, and the seat. I carry mine in my Saturn Vue. I looked at a CRV and it would have fit but I am from Detroit and could not picture having a foreign car in my garage. The 2 batteries and drive are the heaviest portions. I can lift any part by myself and assemble the whole thing in a couple of minutes. I can do it faster if it is raining.

You can get your doctors assistance for insurance purposes, just be sure to say the scooter is for getting around inside the house....as insurance doesn't care about outside mobility and won't pay.
