The rice has worked for me. But it is important to remember...once the device falls in a liquid...DO NOT try to turn it on. And it is most peoples first reaction is to try to turn it on, while wet. Don't do it.

In another case the rice did not work. But I put it in the oven with it set to bread proofing, which is a feature on our oven. Keeps it at about 120 degrees max. After a few hours it came back to life. If your oven does not have bread proofing mode, just turn on the oven light and close the door. Just make sure nobody comes along later and tries to preheat the oven for a frozen pizza.

It seems any type of various drying methods work about half the time.

if it had been dropped and instantly retrieved, it might have been saved

but going thru an entire wash cycle emersed that long and agitated, I don't think its possible to revive it

save the $65 put it toward the replacement phone

Just think if you had bought the $100 insurance on 4 phones, you would have already spent $400 and still probably have to pay another $50 for the deductible on this one, and maybe can only get a couple of replacement phones before the insurance is all used up.
They put a special red dye on the phone, behind the battery, it dissolves and leaves behind a stain when submerged in water.

At least you can keep the spare battery.

I would still try heating it up - not over 120F. Maybe turn on the oven and light, then shut it off after about 2 minutes, wait for it to cool to 110F and then let the phone sit in there for a few hours. Leave off the battery door, and leave the battery someplace else. The light will keep the oven from cooling off to quickly. Also take out any memory card.

I keep thinking that they need to build a more water resistant phone, one that is not so delicate. That will win away customers to another brand of phone carrier, and then with market share slipping away, other carriers will bring out more water resistant phones.

Fred.

there are mil specrated water resistant phones
the Model name/line is G'zOnefrom Casio the watch people
I had one before I got into Androids, I think I made a post about
1 Guy in our group drove over it in his gravel driveway
another guy soaked in a bucket of water he even reached in and dialed a call
one person put his in tuberware with water and froze it in the freezer

Casio won't rate them for treatment that severe, but we torture tested them
diving in the swiming pool , dropping them, etc...
everyone kept workng, none failed

here is the link to the one I had

My son was pushed in a pool (by a girl he liked) with his droid on his hip.... As he was falling he was trying to get it off his hip. it was under water for less then 3 seconds... It was dead. We tried everything Rice, Heat, time. etc... It is still dead.

You are dealing not only with the water but that it bounced around the washing machine through all of the cycles. More than likely circuits were fried when it got wet. Most leave these on all of the time - many phones don't ever fully shut off, so the battery was sending power through while the water was flowing into it and shorted out circuits. That plus the banging around. Just getting the water out of it is not going to fix any damage that was done in the process.

Sadly, there is not much choice other than to buy another phone - either from the carrier or on ebay branded for the carrier.

The other option you might have depending on your contract my be less expensive to add another line (with the reduced price/free phone) and pay for the new phone that way. i.e: $10 per month x 24 months = $240
