Hi:
We're looking for recommendations on what foods can safely kept in the RV while it is in the storage yard. This is Houston, so summer heat can be an issue. We figure most can goods are ok; dry goods could be kept in Tupperware? What about towels and linens?
Links to old threads on this subject are appreciated.

Whenever we go and put our Motorhome into the storage during the winter, we'd usually take out the food. We can use the canned goods during this time at home. Also, it eliminates the chances of rodents getting curious and attracted to our Motorhome during this time.

i wouldn't store any foods except canned goods, otherwise you'll be invaded by ants or mice.
towels and linens should be fine, we furnish ours like a cottage.

If there is any chance of mice getting in I would remove the bedding. Towels kept in closets or cabinets might be OK. Mice like to nest in soft things or tear apart mattresses to get at the cotton/foam inside.

Canned or dry goods are not a sure thing to leave in a "stored" rig. It would take you mere minutes to remove the items vs hours to clean up any unexpected problems. When you say stored, I'm thinking "months" in storage....not two or three weeks in between trips.

I leave all my towels and clothes and some can foods and dry foods but take out anything that will freeze. So far I dont have a rodent problem but keep a eye out for it so that I could remove other things.I guess I pretty much leave everything in but I do go out ( I store my RV on my property and can turn on a heater if I want because it is close to a outlet ) and rotate the food to keep it fresh. I did make the mistake of leaving 2 cans of soda this year in the fridge and they blew up but it was so cold I only had to sweep it out

I took out all food and liquids, cleaning supplies, toiletries (even toothepaste as taste will get destroyed w/ freezing but left behind the toothebrushes etc) or anything that could freeze. In texas you mentioned summer heat. If you are storing it for a long period in the summer, can extreme heat for long periods of time cause canned food to go bad? I don't know but something to research. If you are looking for just in between trips, I would say it depends on how long between trips. We are in NC which also gets hot (but not as hot as texas). We go out approx 1-2 x month. we left all bedding, toiletries (not meds), cleaning supplies and canned food in the trailer. Some drink stuff too (ie water bottles, etc). Took anything boxed or open with us (basically anything tempting to a mouse/bugs). We also spray a long acting ant spray around our trailer when we park it.

such as storing my unit for winter, I take all food out of the TT. I never had a mouse problem with all the cats in this neighborhood. I take all clothes and bedding out, wash them and place them in plastic storage bags in the stick house. I do leave pots and pans and silver ware, but that's about all.

We empty our camper for the winter. All food is gone. We do leave in there the bedding, pillows, etc. Nothing the cold can do to them...
