I know legitimate haulers who have tried to get loads on u-ship. They are consistantly underbid by the fly-by-night drivers. After all, when you don't have the overhead of insurance, taxes and permits it is easy to make a profit while hauling for next to nothing per mile. What are the odds that an LEO will see the show, then spot one of those people? Next to none, so why not depict illegal hauling at it's worst? They give hot shotters and expediters a bad name.

I watched the show for the first time last night. I agree with all those here who said those people are idiots. The only one who may have his act together for real commercial hauling is the driver of the 18 wheeler, but I never saw him get any loads and all he did was rag the others from inside his sleeper cab.
As far as what truck and trailer would I have to do that kind of job, well, that would depend on what needed to be hauled. There is no one truck or one trailer that can do it all.
One truck and multiple trailers of different types would be needed to haul a wider variety of cargo types. A stock trailer for livestock, an enclosed cargo trailer for home furnishings etc, a car trailer for cars, a gooseneck flat deck for bigger equipment loads.
However, some cargos may need a bigger truck or different type of truck and some locales and cargos may need a smaller truck. So really, multiple trucks and multiple trailers would be needed to be able to haul everything that may come along.
Specializing in livestock, like the girl does, at least allows her to tailor her truck and trailer to her type of loads. I think her rig (one-ton pickup and a small gooseneck stock trailer) is perfect for what she does and she can still haul a small range of other types of cargo besides animals.

This is a show and thats all it is. These people you see on the show all have DOT# and MC# and all but the guy in the van and the girl show insruance of 1 mil or more. They seem to have more then 1 truck and more then one driver again all but the one in the van and the girl. Here is a link to there profiles.

Don't think there's one "reality" show out there that doesn't insult the industry they're portraying!
If I were a hot shot hauler, I'd keep it practical. A Cummins Ram 3500 dually, with bed removed, hauling a flat deck or car hauler. Registered for about 36,000 GVW. I'd try to fit a DOT legal sleeper within the cab.
Most of these setups will put the rear axle close to overload, so if it means hauling a bigger load, then a cab and chassis is not out of the question.
I'd pick the Cummins because this is one engine that has proven itself in light-medium commercial service. Tens of thousands school buses around the nation runs around daily, up to 36,000 GVW, on Cummins ISBs. I will do a EGR and DPF delete though...

I have to admit, I am totally surprised that there are legit haulers for u-ship. I wonder how hard they had to look to find them.

Awwwwww... I have to disagree.
Seems to me that Rick and the crew at Pawn Stars does a pretty good job portraying a positive light on their (the Pawn) industry.
They seem to be very fair with their dealings and have even offered more for an item than the customer asks when they know the item is worth MUCH more than the customer knows.
They seem to shed a positive light on the Pawn industry.
On the other hand HARDCORE Pawn... makes it seem like more than half the people in Detroit are freaking NUTS!
Then there is Rick's Restorations... Ie. "American Restoration". Here is another reality show that displays a positive portrayal of the restoration industry. These guys are FANTASTIC and there is generally no shenanigans on the show just for the cameras.
