I have 4 house batteries and am getting ready to purchase inverter and solar panels.
I'm considering getting a 2800 watt inverter.
Q. How many watts of solar panel will that inverter and my 4 batteries support?
Without getting into brands.
Q.How many batteries, inverter size, panle watts, do others have?
Thanks

2800 watts will be a lot of solar panels on your RV.

I'm no expert but I think your inverter or batteries don't care how many watts of solar you have. The bigger the solar sytem the less running time for your generator. We are going to put on a solar system this year and I'm thinking about at least 600 or 800 watts of solar since we use our Tvs and play music a lot.

I was thinking of starting with 4 140W panels.
The price difference between a 2000w and 2800w inverter is so little.

They will support however much solar you want you'll just run out of power sooner with less panels .. you'll run out of roof before you'll have too much in solar panels. i think your question is whats normal for people to have on their rig's? You Might want to post this in the Tech section instead of here.
My post's are my opinion The advice, comments etc are free and worth what you paid

Think of your batteries as an electric fuel tank.
you use electricity, they go down, and more needs
to be put in.
Solar, generator, shore power put in,
Lights, radio/TV, etc take out.
Now you can start thinking about how you are going to
replace it when you determine how much you are going to
use.

I'm considering getting a 2800 watt inverter. Why? What exactly do you want to run from inverter (battery) powrer?
Q. How many watts of solar panel will that inverter and my 4 batteries support? How much sunshine a day do you get? How depleted will your batteries be at 7AM in the morning? Meaning how much power do you need to put back into the batteries each day?
Without getting into brands.
Q.How many batteries, inverter size, panle watts, do others have?
Thanks
I have 4 Deka 6VDC golf cart batteries, two 125 watt solar panels, a 1500 watt inverter. I can run the radio all day, watch a couple of hours of TV at night, run the furnace to keep the RV warm, and recharge from my solar panels just fine. On cloudy cool days I can go for three or four days between generator charging.

I don't know about the solar but friends told us that they went with the 2800 inverter just in case they ever put in a residential fridge.

In a sense the size of your inverter is not relavent. How many watts you ask it to deliver is. The number of solar panels you have is not directly relavent as well. How many watts per day they deliver to your batteries is. The output rating of your solar panels doesn't mean much but the amount of sun for how long does. I have 800w of solar panels on the roof of my coach. Some days they will put out 42-43 amps and some days (cloudy-rainy) maybe 5 amps. Confusing isn't it?

Hi JimGo,
What make and model of inverter?
How many amp-hours of battery bank?
140 x 4 should be quite a nice solar system for battery charging.
