Someone pointed out the gearing, 4.30 compared to 3.73. The trans gears makes each gear almost identical. The Toyota Trans has taller gears, combined with the shorter axle. The 6.0L will not feel quite as strong, but I think you'll enjoy the towing experience more. Enjoy the new ride!

Congrats. You won't be disappointed with the 3/4 ton towing. I stand corrected on my comment that 3500lbs payload for a 2500 truck seemed high.

I know this won't upgrade the ratings (so the weight police can relax!) but the Tundra is overbuilt (axles comparable to most 1 tonnes etc) and under rated.

The Tundra axle isn't anything close to the GM Corporate axle used in the 2500HD / 3500HD trucks. The Tundra uses a semi-float, like every other "1/2 ton" truck, and every component is dwarfed by those used in the GM HD axle. I'm not knocking the Tundra at all, but there's no comparison on axles, springs, frame, or anything else on the 2500HD underpinnings. The trade-off, of course, is that the Tundra rides and handles much better unloaded. That 5.7 is very smooth too, so it makes for a great tow vehicle for mid-weight tag-along campers.

That said, I personally would have probably kept the Tundra with that much weight... but congrats to the OP on the new truck.

as an owner of a 2010 2500HD gasser 4.10 diff I am currently getting 10.5 mpg around town no better than 14 mpg highway average 65 mph (non towing). Towing my 7400 lb loaded tt does a great job no complaints except needing a fuel tanker in my back yard!!!!!
I average around 8.5-9.5 mpg towing @ 60-65 mph.
Oh yeah, I put the rig on a Cat scale and got a total of 14,300 lbs.

Wow that is a long tag trailer. Do cross winds push you around a lot?
