So far I'm very impressed with 4G performance. However, I doubt I'll be at any campgrounds soon that are in 4G coverage areas. Nice to have when we occasionally stop at a large metro area RV park. Seems like the phone I have has fewer issues with connections etc. than some of the dedicated cards.
That might work for you, but if I went that route and I was gone at work... my wife wouldn't have internet at home, since this is our only source at home.
I had two bars of 4G signal or @-102 yesterday at my house and it wouldn't hold 4G. Like I said it works for me on 3G, not for everyone. One more antenna in my area converted to 4G and I'll be set....one day 4G

Cox Communications (Cable) in Roanoke, Va (see bottom left corner). We always felt they were awesome. This is thru a Netgear router and wireless to our desktops.

Verizon 4G Mifi 4510 wireless in Roanoke, Va (does not indicate Verizon, but it is the service we had for 2 weeks on trial).
My wife used to give me $1.00 each workday for lunch. After a long argument, I won. Now she gives me $5.00 every Monday.

I have run similar upload and DL tests
the problem with theses tests .... figures are only reliable as a single file single server situation
down loading or uploading pictures video etc
these tests do not represent real world web page surfing
web pages contain multiple links pulling data text flash adv etc.. from multiple heavy traffic servers
I wish there was a test where we could enter several web page URLs
and the test program would DL them and then upload them to a server (all data for that page)
and give real world thru put times
Options, always have options, and the journey goes much smoother

My 46 speeds vary from 7.xx download to 13.xx download similar to above post. My 3G here and elsewhere with strong signal never seemed to get above 1.xx and most often would be .7. Now as soon as Wilson gets that 4G Sleek out, Ill be one happy camper!
So, you can put an external antenna on the 4G units? I had not heard that.
Joe
I dont think my mifi has external antenna port. For 3G I use a Wilson Sleek and also connect a Wilson Trucker antenna to the Sleek when needed. But the current Sleek doesnt amplify 3G; a 4G Sleek is coming.

Our son has signed up for Verizon 4510 3G/4G Mifi service in New Castle, Va. He knows he cant get 4G at this time, but also knows 3G is faster than anything else in the area.
We have Millenicom (supposedly uses Verizon 3G hardware/Towers) and our service is terribly poor but all we can get on a 20GB/Mo basis. We now know Verizon 3G service is about 4 times faster as he brought his 4510 to our house and we ran a couple speedtest.net tests and they are faster - noticeably faster.
So the statement of Millenicom using Verizon's hardware/towers may be the case but it does not yield the same service. Problem is Verizon is $20.00/mo more than Millenicom and has a 10GB limit. You pay $10.00/mo for each GB overage.

We swapped our 3g Verizon MIFI for a 4g midstream of our contract and they lowered our mo. charge $5. Kept the data at 5g. A welcome change. We use it at home and in the MH.
