We have been enjoying our Verizon 3G MIFI for nearly 2 years. I have seen that Verizon has been offering 4G MIFI's now. I am wondering what the consensus is on the 4G MIFI? Do you have one? Which model? Is it great? or does it suck swamp water? Would you buy one again?

We moved from the 3G MiFi2200 last year to the 4G MiFI4510 last year. Seems to provide very good service, although we don't have 4G yet in our area. They seemed to have removed some of the battery and time out issues that plagued the 2200.

why are waiting so long to upgrade I would bet money you have 4G in your area, I up graded as soon as it came out, it is backwards compable to 3 G so it works everywhere. I had 4G last week on South Padre Island here on the Texas coast.

We have 4g but we only use the card camping and so far since getting it this past Spring we've only been at one campground that actually had 4g available.

I had the Verizon 3G Pantech modem for about 18 months, and was satisfied with the coverage during our travels, but speed was somewhat slow. Moved "up" to the MiFi4510L this past November to take advantage of the "Fast 4G LTE" speeds that were advertised, and frankly wish I hadn't switched. At my 3 different work locations here in the Phoenix area my signal meter indicates 4 bars (Max) 4G signal, but I routinely get 1-3 mb download speeds according to speedtest.net - Sometimes I get less than 1 mb, and sometimes it just freezes up. I have contacted technical support at Verizon and have been told by more than 1 rep that "you can only expect download speeds of 1-3mb". They did have me go in to a store to get a new SIM card at one point (not sure why??) but there wasn't any change in speed. I'd love to take it back, but I'm well past my 15 day trial period.

Had Sprint... it did "suck swamp water", as you put it. Bought the Verizon 4510L (I think it was $100 with 2 year contract and, if memory serves, I'm still waiting on a $50 rebate). Although 4G has yet to make it to the Santa Clarita Valley (CA), its' 3G service far surpasses Sprint. And I go over the hill into LA quite often where there is 4G. Let me tell you... maybe I'm just happy to be rid of slow Sprint but, in my opinion, 4G is screamin' fast in LA. Nope... haven't done a speed test to give you numbers... just comparing to Sprint.
Edit added: I should point out that there are two devices available... the Samsung and the original version. The Samsung does not have the external antenna jack. I got the original version that does have the jack just in case I needed it in the future. As of yet, not needed but it's nice to know I can add a relatively cheap outside antenna if I choose.

I have the Verizon Samsung "jetpack" wifi hotspot, good write up here
Besides satelite internet or dial up, it was my only choice at home. We use it everyday and it works well. I'm on the edge of 4G coverage, so it doesn't connect to 4G at home. It's really fast on 4G, but you have to have a solid 4G signal. Even on 3G I'm getting a 105 ms ping, 1.94 Mbps down and .66 Mbps up on the test I just ran. The worst problem we have is...It does not load a web page about every 10 mins, have to click reload. I did switch the security setting from the default, per the attached write up, and that seem to help the stability.

Here's my 4G speeds right now, in San Jose, Ca:

We've been using the 4510L since August 2011. It was a pain in the butt for several months - dropping the internet connection about every hour or so - but Verizon released a firmware update back in November and it's been working well since then.

We are in Amado, AZ for the next three months. This is a small backwater town halfway between Tucson and Nogales. I don't look for this place to EVER get 4G. We will be in Des Moines by the end of April for 6 months. Des Moines got 4G just recently, hence my asking if it has been worth it to upgrade. The upgrade will not do me any good now, but if I get good vibes from enough people, I will be upgrading come April.
