Yesterday we took 7 rvers to Lago de Camecuaro, just outside of Zamora. It was truly a beautiful place. A small national park consisting of hundreds of small springs that formed a very clear little lake. Hundreds of old cypress trees that are a couple thousand years old. Great for birdwatching. Not so busy through the week, busier on weekends.

The person who runs the place said that rvers can park there, inside the park overnight for 20 pesos per person. They do lock the gates at 10 pm and there is a guard there who doesn't open up again till about 9 am, but it is is an alternative if you happen to be between our place and Patzcuaro. There are also a few food and fruit vendors inside for meals. It was not crowded on a Tues, but we were told weekends are quite busy. Small rigs would have no trouble at all parking inside the park, it might be more tricky for large rigs. No hookups. There is a large parking lots outside the park, but not sure if it is an option.

Lago de Camecuaro is located on highway 15 on the Patzcuaro side of the Jacona-Zamora bipass, don't go thru Zamora unless you want to see the city which has a beautiful cathedral. There are signs for the lake coming from us in Jalisco, no sure about signs coming from Patzcuaro. Coordinates are 19 54 8 N and 102 12 36 W

I used the Lat/Lon Converter below to convert to Digital and looked on Google Earth to find the place - lots of photos - very cool place - we will definitely be checking it out - thanks Barb.

We agree definately a cool spot for smaller rigs but not gonna work for any Big Rigs, The Parking Lots outside the Gates would be Ok for some but ,no security may be an issue!

We had good friends who traveled in that area, we miss them, they had a great time until they left.

Strange, I was just looking at photos of Camecuaro.
We used to have family living in Zamora, now living in Aguascalientes; Michoacan reminds me of Oregon with its mountains, lakes and forests.
