We downsized from our house of 15 years to a 900 sq ft Condo. BEST move we ever made! We handed a bunch of stuff down to the kids, did a big garage sale, donated some stuff and rented a large dumpster for what was left. In the end, it was shocking to really see how much******we had accumulated.

Of course, DW decided that our house furniture wouldn't do for the condo, so we went shopping as well! ;-)

We downsized.......2000 sq. ft. 4 acres to 280 sq.ft no dirt 5th wheel.

Easiest way.......have an estate auction. They come in and sort everything....you tell them what you want to go and what you want to keep. They advertise, auction the stuff, collect the monies and then pay you all for 25%.

You sit back and watch......

We took the monies and put it away for emergency fund.......5 yrs. still have it
You could refurnish new place. Change of housing, change of lifestyle...change the furniture.

We downsized from about 2500 SF to about +1300. House had to have a larger living room and master bed rm, the rest is what it is. Had room to park the motor home on side of the house into the back yard so I put in a motor home drive to get into the back and fenced it off. Zera-scaped the front and back yards so no grass to mow. Best thing we ever did.

Old Biscuit has the right idea. We went from 1800 sgft to 28' 5ver. If it doesn't move to 5ver, it sells. A whole house full of furniture converted to money is very easy to haul in any trailer.
We did build another house, slightly smaller, like 480 sgft. We call it the lobby of our private RV park, only one site, but we like it. It has full laundry, etc.

We are putting our stick n brick up for sale also. We are planning on living in the Voltage 3905 for a couple of years until we know for sure we want to go back to house living. We have a 2,600 sq ft home on 8 acres of land with a gorgeous view and wildlife, 1 out building, attached 2 car garage, NO basement. Five minutes to the South Fork of the Snake River and 5 minutes to Palisades Lake. JUST put in granite throughout the house in Feb. 2011 (left in April 2011 for hubby's job), AND a brand new washer/dryer March 2011. : > (((

We'll do the storage thing ... like many have said ... probably until we realize we don't need the 'stuff' and stop paying the rent.
