We are winter Texans with a stick house in San Benito. We got some good rib eyes at HEB in San Benito, but had to get a butcher to cut them for us. The stuff that is on display does not look that great. As said in an earlier post, Sams Club has some very good meat. I saw the ad on TV for Juniors but I think they are in McAllen, about 45 miles west of San Benito. We tried the meat market in Primera but were not impressed. A neighbor told me today that he only gets his meat at El Centro in LaFeria and says they are the best. We eat a lot of chicken, fish and shrimp while in the Valley and save our red meat cookouts for the summer when we can get the good stuff.

Just as a precaution you may want to check out "Food 4 Thought" before you go running around to meat markets! Some of them have been pretty bad!

We just got home today after spending a month at Kenwood in La Feria. I love to shop at HEB but their meat here in Mexico and Texas is not consistent. In both countries I have returned meat straight from the grill because of poor quality.
We were very lucky with El Centro market in La Feria. Not an upper-class shopping experience by any means, but we and others at the park were impressed with the purchases of ribeye, new york and other cuts. Very tender and well-marbled.
Meat can be purchased in Mexico and brought across the border, don't discount Mexican butcher shops, they carry some good northern Mexico meats from Nuevo Leon and Chihuahua. We had a cookout in McAllen last night and our friends brought the meat from Monterrey which they purchased in Los Ramos meat market, a Mexico chain. Here at home we always purchase there.
