Hey everyone! Where is a good place to buy beef in the San Benito-Harlingen area? HEB and Walmart have a very limited selection of beef cuts. I'm looking for tri-tip, rib-eye, t-bones, rib roasts, etc. Any recommendations? I'll drive to the North Valley if necessary. Thanks.

I'm surprised you can't find most of the meat cuts you mentioned at HEB.
Ours has them all the time.
Tri tip is not a popular cut here. Brisket is the choice for slow cooking or smoking.
But I bet you can get an HEB butcher to fix you one.
Otherwise, look for a meat market. There's bound to be one.

HEB took out all the mom and pop butcher shops many years ago that I remember my dad going to when I was a kid. Most folks usually settle for HEB. You may want to try Primera Meat Service west of Harlingen. Go north on Stuart Place from Exp 83 about 5 miles. They are a wholesale outfit but have a retail sales counter as well. I have not used them in years as they close at 5pm and I get out of work about that time. I've also seen some tv commercials for a place in the upper valley named Juniors Meats. I don't know much about them but the commercial looks promising. You might also try Bob Stark's Beef Shop in Mcallen on Dove. Good luck in your search.

Another VOTE for Sams Club. The Best meat in the state. Nice thick cuts, well marbled choise beef and it is the greatest. We are in McAllen and I just won't buy anywhere but Sams
