Just a bit of heads up for this coming camping season....anyone here in Ontario planning on heading to Windsor / USA .... be prepared for a huge shock when you reach the end of the 401. The new DRIC highway to nowhere is now under full swing, and the stretch of #3 highway to Windsor looks as though a huge Tornado has rolled through, taking everything, and i mean everything, in it's path. By the time summer camping season is here, this is going to be one busy area, so be prepared for delays, even though the MTO promises to have 4 lanes of traffic open at all times....should be interesting

Did they ever get that bridge issue solved between Detroit and the Canadian border?

I am heading that way a week from tomorrow. Are there any current traffic or construction issues that you know of?

My location gives me the option of going via Buffalo instead without incurring much inconvenience.

No. In fact they recently threw the bridge owner and the company president in jail for contempt! The're out now but the legal wrangling continues with no end in sight.

We came through there 2 weeks ago. The road was fine but the bridge was down to one lane each way. They only had one gate open for Buses and RV's and they took a long time inspecting the buses. They had us lined up almost to the bridge. They then sent us over with the trucks and after a few questions. Your good to go. It will be nice when they get things cleaner up there. They should leave that bridge owner in jail until the bridge is up to standard.

When ever we travel in that direction we always cross over at Sarnia, where they have now almost finished the road work at the Canadian border and the work on the US side does not really slow you down. Friends of ours who live in Chatam, drive north to cross at Sarnia when they travel with us.

The other trick is take the ferry between Sombra ON and Marine City MI very quick and pleasant ride across the river. The ferry can accommodate transport trucks and I have crossed with my fiver with zero issues.

You are still good too go, the major work doesn't start for another month....but if you ever wanted to envision what it looks like when a C5 twister goes thru an area, be prepared, thats what it looks like when you get off the 401....they have left nothing standing ( honk before you hit Windsor Crossing Outlet Mall, i may just be in my bedroom looking out my window at this disaster)

What is the cost for using the ferry. We have noticed the signs but never considered using it. Sounds like a possible alternative.

Sombra Ferry Website

You will find all Information at their website. hours of operation and costs.
Good folks running the service.

Crossing the Bluewater Bridge with our truck and fiver is $10.50 if I remember and the ferry is $16.00 if I remember.
