We travel/RV a lot all over the country and Canada and find Michigan to be one of the cheapest in overall costs. Not a chance in heck that we would move to any other state! The pure beauty of most of the state of Michigan is one of a kind and unmatchable and the drinking/swimming/fishing/boating waters and opportunities are second to none. More than 11,000 inland lakes and over 3200 miles of fresh water Great Lakes Shoreline, second in the number of golf courses, great fruit grows nearly all over the state, over 100 excellent state parks, etc. That's just a very small sample too!

Is there ice along other shorelines (eastern?), especially in the spring?

Lake Ontario ice will pile up on shore 20' high if the wind direction and ice conditions are right.

One time non-motorized towables fees are based upon weight. $75 in the lowest of the three levels and the highest is a one time $200 and that's the level a 35' 5th wheel would likely be in as it is very likely over 10,000 lbs dry weight. Fees are for the item's title dry weight only.

pnichols,

There is NO ice on the West Michigan beaches or shoreline or the rivers from about 100 miles north of South Haven to the indiana border and we're in the depth of winter.

Live cam looking at the shoreline at Grand Haven 50-60 miles north of South Haven (cam moves around and it's enlargable):

Thanks for the clarification on trailer fees. Even at $200 at least it's only a one time fee. Our mh is more than that and it's every year.

None this winter, yet? Sure used to be back in the 50's and 60's.

Must be global warming which, if so, will greatly benefit Michigan in that it will moderate it's freezing winters, reduce it's summer humidity, and decimate it's mosquito hatches.

Speak for yourself. If "global warming" means 45 degree winter days, I say GREAT!

Nah - we're just having a really weird winter this year. The snowmobilers and cross-country skiers are borderline suicidal ;-) Normally, my kitesurfing pals use the ice floes as "launch pads" to get airborne in the spring...LOL!

He made a joke Lighten up if you want a global warming thread start one and don't get this one closed over such foolishness. How can a gas tax increase morph into this anyhow.

Maybe because a lot of people feel the 10 cent gas tax is irrevalent. Our gas goes up and down a quarter at a time, you wouldn't even notice when the dime kicked in.

If want something to rant about, how about the fact that petroleum products (gas, oil diesel) have recently become the USA's number 1 export. This keeps supplies low and prices high. Affects you wallet much more than that dime ever will.
