The wife plans on retiring the end of this year and we have been planning for this since last summer.
We bought the 'puller' in July of 2011, a Chev. Silverado 3500HD dually, crew cab, 8' box, Duramax diesel, Allison tranny. Then the research began for the 5ver.
Recently, after 6 months of doing our due dillegence, ordered a 2012 Jayco Pinnacle 36KPTS which we will be picking up in mid-March and will bond with the rest of year.
We won't be technically 'full timers' in 2013 but do plan on traveling for months at a time. Snow birds for sure.
Really looking forward to it!!!

We have been Rvers for years, but are having our first season of snowbirding. It is quite a learning curve and after almost a month we are starting to evaluate and think about whether we want to stay in one place for the winter or leave and explore other places.
Other than visually seeing the campsites and having a good idea of what you are looking for, the people around the camp are the most important if you want to be social. For that reason, I am not sure that you could figure out where you want to be until you have been there awhile.
We have learned a few more things about our RV. Nothing like living in it for weeks at a time to bring out all the things you would like to have in the next one!

Thanks so far for all of the replies. I guess this whole concept is not rocket science, but we are the planner type and want to be somewhat prepared. We have an 05 Duramax with only 41,000 miles on it, so will be in ok shape there, but our trailer is only 23' with a little dinette slide. Putting out $100,000+ for any kind of mobile living situation is not in the cards for us, so maybe a park model or condo rental? We are not sure how long we will be gone during the winter, and we live in a cold climate and have never gone through the winterizing end of things. We also have a 7 year old cat, and not sure how she would travel (if at all)? Well, keep the posts coming as I learn from them all.

I was in the class of '11, DW will be in the class of '13 or is it '14 (she retires at the end of '13). While I look forward to her joining me, I have done well going it alone. I think having a plan is the best thing you can do, particularly the first year. I planned my retirement and the next twelve months in detail prior to leaving. I think it would have been terrorfying to quit on Friday and get up Monday with no plan. The plan didn't work out perfect (but close) but it was a good blueprint to work from. The further along I go the easier it is to wing it. BTW, I did my first year in a 27'BH w/ a sofa slide but have upgraded to a TT with considerably more floor space.

I fully retired a year ago. If I dont have anything to do I go bonkers. We are in AZ for 3 months and I am doing better than last year when it was are first 3 months. Dont know how folks do full time. I have a part time ATV repair business in the summer and if it wasnt for that and my garage and yard to putter in I dont know what I would do. However DW is perfectly content to sit and read and talk the dog for a walk.

Chopper Bill---- Semi retired 14 years ago and fully retired 3 years ago. Now play pool every day, golf 3 times a week, swim, our park has exercise classes, sewing and crafts, pot lucks, cards. Spend winters here and travel in the summer.
Don't know how I would have any time to do any work, can't hardly find time to was the vehicles.
