I brought home a foster dog tonight. His belly seems a little... tight... He's not in distress, I'm not feeling like it's an emergency. He was neutered yesterday and they had to go digging for a testicle. Could this be related? I've never dealt with it before, so don't know what the side effects would be.
Pictures tomorrow, everyone... He came out of the LA county shelter at Lancaster, and is heading to his adoptive home in Wisconsin once we raise the funds to ship him. We thought terrier, but once I clipped the hair off his face he looks a more like a poodle there. So probably a terrier/poodle mix.

When you have to dig for a cryptorchid testicle a lot of tissue trauma is the result. Often times there is swelling post op, I'd consider this "normal" depending on where the swelling is. It could also indicate post op bleeding - not normal. If color (gum pinkness), activity level, pain, appetite are all normal not an emergency.

I saw pictures of your foster on your Facebook page. A cute little ragga-muffin!
Best of luck getting him to his new home and THANKS for fostering him. No doubt about it, you have a houseful!

Better this am. Good bowel movement, good energy and appetite. No swelling at the surgical site, I think he just had a little irritation from something he ate. Possibly the hair he gobbled up... honestly, why do dogs do that stuff?
However, I'm pretty sure he has KC, which is quite common coming out of the shelter. On phone with shelter now to see if I can get a script for the appropriate cootie killers.
One other question.... he needs a bath, and soon, and I've never waited more than three days after a surgery on myself, but someone is telling me that he can't be washed for ten days. I think that used to be in the olden days, before they figured out that dry wasn't actually the best thing for wound healing? His incisions look like they were glued, very small and neat and no irritation, so I would be inclined to think that Monday he could have a wash-up, or after that if I haven't got him de-matted by then.
He's a cute little monster, Cathy. Definitely not "aggressive" as he was labeled. I will get some pics up when I get this crisis managed. Maybe I'll eat at some point. I did NOT need another animal in the house, but how do you let one die when someone is saying "I'll take that dog."

We got our Maggie May from the Lancaster shelter and the day we said we'd take her, they told us she would have to be spayed prior to us taking her home. This sounded reasonable so we agreed to the $50 charge and paid it. The next day when we went to pick her up, they told us that they discovered that she was already spayed. We asked for our $50 bucks back and they said.. oh, well it's already been submitted and we will have to go through the process of getting a refund. Two months later, we finally got the $50 bucks back.
In addition, they told us she was a Shih Tzu mix. Once we got her home and gave her a bath (oh, man that kennel stink was really bad) we determined that she is, in all probability, a full blooded Lhasa Apso.
Fortunately, no KC and after having her now for a whole year, she is in perfect health with absolutely no health problems at all. She had been well trained and responds to many hand signals and voice commands and is a very loving and devoted little dog. I just can't believe how lucky we were.

He smells like someone put something on him to smell better, some time back. Not helping now! Can't wait to get him brushed out and scrubbed clean.

If there is only glue, I'd be careful about soaking the incision. Bathing while keeping the incision as dry as possible, without scrubbing the area might be OK.
With sutures, the holes in the skin caused by the suture provide a path for bacteria/infection. I don't like bathing until suture lines are really healed. Even after removing the sutures there is alot of remodeling within the skin that has to be done to achieve full strength.
There is nothing worse than having a real nice incision open up after sutures are removed.
