I am currently planning our trip to the Balloon Fiesta and am trying to decide whether to take one of tours or go it alone. Does anyone have an experienced opinion? Good Sam topur, Fantasy RV Tours (FMCA), Adventure Caravans or go it alone? thanks for your help.

We went by ourselves and stayed on the field in VIP2 East RV parking. Had a ball and did not have to line some tour operators pocket. We are planning on a return visit this Oct, on our way south.

We went with 4 other motorhomes on our own. They are so organized with parking, its a breeze. We parked in VIP parking. Walked to the liftoff area at our leisure. We towed a car so during the day we tooled around the area. We ran our generator a little while in the daytime to charge things up. Its a lot of fun. Be sure you are there for at least 4 nights. Balloons are so fussy, they cannot fly in any wind so they do call off activities if the weather isn't just right. We saw the shaped balloons and the regular balloons.

I live in Albuquerque but I would skip the tours. The fiesta is very well organized. I would make reservations early (like now).

Ladies and Gents,
This sounds sort of interesting. We don't do any ballooning but, I think it would be fun to walk around such an event just to see all of them and the technology involved. What's this "VIP" parking thing, if I may ask? Can anyone get parking in it or is it a select group thing? We just came through Albuquerque in Sept and stayed at "American RV Park" across the freeway from Camping World. Nice place, very clean, fairly quiet and out of the town by a few miles. I'd stay there again for the festival if, that would work but, I don't know where the festival is held so, maybe it could be long drive from that RV park.

Go to this page. It will tell you everything. We have stayed at the city owned park two times. The balloons will go over your head and be so low to the ground that a person can talk to the operators. Marvh

VIP2 East is on the east side on a bluff directly above the vendor area, over looking the entire field. If you make your reservations early enough and request fence parking, you are on the front row and can set inside your RV and watch all the action. You get free shuttle service up and down the hill to the vendor area on the field. It is next to the so called FHU parking, but IMO, has a much better view than they do. Anyone can park there, as long as you get your reservations in early, like now.

We also live in Albuquerque (Sandia Park) and recommend you skip the tours. Make your parking reservations at the Balloon Fiesta campground early and save your money to spend on pottery and jewelry. ;-)
