I always move over unless it is Thunder Mountain trying to merge and then like everyone else I pick on him. It's gonna be a long hard Miserable retirement.

In southern B.C., having at least one taillight out seems to be a must.

Thunder Mountain wrote: My friend I'm not talking about the law. I'm talking about common courtesy. Do you get over if there is not another car in either lane and someone is trying to merge? It just seems that people drive with their heads up their behinds. Nobody has anny manners any more.
You're right about that - it is the courteous thing to do. I've always known the law - that the vehicle coming onto the highway is required to merge - but I will gladly get out of the way if there's a clear lane to my left, especially when I see a large vehicle trying to get up to speed.
But it happens everywhere. And here in Southern California, many of the freeway-shoulders have been eliminated in order to add another lane of traffic. And that leads to some very short on-ramps, sometimes with less than a 1/4 mile to get up to speed. And with no shoulder to the right, your choices are limited - either stop before merging (not a real option), or hoping the cars in the slow-lane are willing to merge. It can be really interesting.
Don't let it get to you.

You're right!
Problem in FL is that nobody is "from" FL --- Everybody's brought their bad driving habits with them when they moved down here from wherever!

How to Prevent Road Rage
One simple rule to remember as you are driving; When it comes to operating motor vehicles, most people are no damn good.
Here is something that may help:
When a DA driver does something typically stupid near you say to yourself
"You are a DA and you can kiss my #$%, but you must get in the back of the line
of the other drivers ahead of you and wait to kiss it.

This thread has evolved into a discussion of merging onto a four (or more)-lane highway. Here's my take.
Whenever I move left to let an entering four-wheeler merge alongside, all too often the other driver will just match my speed, and there we are going side-by-side. In my state, I can be ticketed for blocking the left lane! (I drive 60 mph towing my fifth-wheel.)
If the merging vehicle is already ahead of me and matching my speed, then I will drop my speed slightly to let them in (and hope that they will speed up).
But if they are slower than I am then I am not going to jam on the brakes.
Exception: if the slower moving merging vehicle is a big truck or big RV, then I will move over because I ought to be able to pass them and move back into the right lane in front of them.
Have to use some common sense: if the merging vehicle is running out of space, then I will let them in, either by slowing down or changing lanes.
