Surely this has been discussed before so my search skills must be lacking. Anyway my question is about camping etiquette. I'm in Quartzsite with square miles of open space around when a truck and trailer pull up about 40 feet away and set up camp. They start their loud generator, go into the trailer and let the generator run late into the night. What is the correct thing to do? Guess I'll just have to pack up and move.

First I would complain to the Camp hosts. Other than that, there is not much you can do about rude, and uncaring camper wannabes. They are the reason we no longer camp in National Parks. Generators have turned them in to no better than truck stops.

It part of that herd mentality. They want to camp near someone to feel safe but have that it's all about me mentality. It's not worth getting into with these people. There's plenty of room out in the BLM area to move and hope like !@#$ they don't follow you.

Welcome to Quartzsite. They have their right to pick their spot and do what they wish. As do you.
Your only option is to move. The entire concept of boondocking is to find your own spot. Should someone else choose to set up near you, that is their choice.
The only rules there are in federal lands are control pets and do not dump wastewater.
Sorry to hear your choice spot is being spoiled by sound pollution.

You could talk to them...but odds are it will fall on deaf ears, and you'll end up leaving for another spot.
But, maybe you'll get lucky, and find that they didn't think that their generator which seemed so quiet in populated areas (and yet is so noisy when there is no other noise ) would disturb your camp.
Might be worth a try...might just be a really nice family...

If they park too close just plug into one of their outside outlets next time they start their genny. That ought to run 'em off.

That's why I won't go near places like Q. You either like that lifestyle or you don't. I don't. Just realize that when you dry camp in popular places you are going to have many others that don't see it the way you do. Your only choice it to move on.
