I'm running GY 235 80R16E Marathons rated at 3420# each and want to replace them with a tire not made in china. Checked the rims and they are stamped with 3500 pounds and this brings up the dilemma of what to replace with. The only viable option I see is the G/Year G614 and load them up to 90 pounds on the existing rims. This is what the local tire dealer recommended. Any comments as I sure want to get rig of the china bombs and get some decent tires.

I would go with the G614 if your wheels are rated to 110PSI, or better yet a 17.5 wheel and tire if you put a lot of miles on it.
There is certainly not a bunch of options for the bigger 5er's.

Or you could upgrade to 17.5 inch tire and wheel package and envy your concerns. What axles do you have 6K or 7K?

I have 7,000# axles and am running GY G614RST's on sig 5er, It has a GVW of 16,900#. I Had one tire lose it's carcass at almost 5 yrs of age on the tire....Replaced all 4 tires with the same tire, GY G614 RST's...Didn't have the money to purchase 4 17.5 wheels and 4 17.5 Goodyear tires...I run the G614's at 110 psi, per the 5er manufacturers tag and per Goodyear service rep...

I am in the same boat. I just bought a 2012 Montana with the GY China Marathons, ST235/80/16E. I have not used the 5er yet but I am planning to replace the tires before I go out the first time. I don't know what your weight is, but I am putting on a set of LT tires either Michellin, BF Goodrich, or Uniroyal LT235/85/16E. The sizes of the LTs are very close to the size if the STs. My previous 5er came with Tiawan rubber on it and I changed to a set of US made Uniroyal HD load range E tires and they ran for years with no trouble. The LTs have a lower weight rating, I think 3042, but for my application they will haul the weight no problem. You will see so many suggestions on this topic it will make you dizzy. Good luck with your decision.

You have a common size tire readily available in Light Truck tires. If I were you, I would buy Firestone Transforce HT tires and be done with it.

Then I would definitely suggest the 17.5 inch tire and wheel package. 17.5 inch tires are true truck trailer tires and carry about a 4500-4700 pound rating each. There are several outlets that offer packages at fair prices on the internet.

Why dont you want to replace them with tires made in China?????

How good are Chinese tires?

Why are “Bad tires” on the road?
