More Great News!
A Note from Jim Suty, Friends of Oceano Dunes board president!
Dear Friends,
I am very pleased to inform you that we won a very important lawsuit. The Sierra Club was trying to get the California State Parks to ban all OHV activity from the land leased from the county (the La Grande Tract). This land represents nearly one third of the Oceano Dunes SVRA.
The Sierra Club lost its first lawsuit and then appealed the decision. Friends of Oceano Dunes intervened in both lawsuits and is extremely pleased that the recent finding cites many of Friends of Oceano Dunes attorney Tom Roth’s arguments. This is a significant victory for all who enjoy the Oceano Dunes.
The Sierra Club likes to portray itself as a grass roots organization, but with a corporate office in San Francisco and office space in SLO with staff…it is far different than what John Muir envisioned. The Sierra Club is a powerful force who has worked hard to get sympathetic politicians in power. Currently the Sierra Club has been successful in getting a majority on the SLO Board of Supervisors and the Air Pollution Control District.
Friends of Oceano Dunes has no paid staff, no corporate office, no local office…just passionate volunteers working hard to maintain continued access to the Oceano Dunes. Please go to our website (www.oceanodunes.org) and make a donation. Friends of Oceano Dunes is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt non-profit.
Friends of Oceano Dunes is engaged in other legal battles and needs your continued support…please donate today.
Sincerely,
Jim Suty

Great news. Just curious, what part is the " Le Grande Tract." I'm assuming it's the east portion??

Its the northern most section right at the entrance that butts up to the closed hilly section all the way back to the fence.

Hi,
The Sierra Club likes to prevent any type of improvements in the parks. I think they would rather see all the pavement removed, and RV's banned from the state and national parks.
How do the handicapped expect to go see it?
It would be far better to install electric outlets at each camp site in Yosemite Valley, and not allow smoggy generators to run anymore. Yet they seem against almost any improvements that might make it easier to camp there.
