IMO, Doug has been the most objective and accurate in his posts. LSU got beat by the best team in college football. LSU offense failed to show up. I take my hat off to the Tiger defense holding Alabama to 5 field goals deep in LSU territory and a late touchdown. They just couldn't hold up any longer with the time they spent on the field.

For those who think another team could have done better, you don't appreciate the great defense Alabama has. Name another team that defeated 8 top ranked teams and dominated 7 of them.

One can only speculate what happened to the LSU offense. Les Miles owes an explanation of his failure to coach the team better than he did and why he kept Jefferson in the entire game. Perhaps a urine test would have been in order for Jefferson. Bobby Hebert said he was 51 years old and could have guided the team to more that 5 first downs.

If there were any positives from this game is that Jefferson played his last game and LSU does not have to make Miles the highest paid coach in football.

I have made it clear on my posts of how much I dislike Saban but I have also said that he is a tremendous coach and teacher. No one is more intense on the field and learns something from every game he loses. He almost never makes the same mistake twice. Alabama showed why they are the best team in football.

I predict that the SEC will continue to be the best in football and those who don't think so need to look at what the other conferences have done (or not done)against the SEC.

This is TOTAL speculation, but they looked like many Sooner teams did after the coaches let them "party" too much the days before the game (kinda like, "Why are all these people here and why are they shouting so loud?").

'Bama came to New Orleans to play football, LSU came to party. That is my opinion.

That was my take. LSU looked rusty and not ready. I think BAMA out coached them.

LSU did look both tired and shocked by AL's intensity. Saban had his team better prepared in every way. I think Alabama would have won regardless of opponent.

Could another team gave them a better game? Probably. I think if LSU had came to play, probably not. LSU deserved to be number 1 in the nation while they were, and they deserved to get beat because of their pitiful effort in the championship game.

Again, this is just my view, but I now am reading all these stories where they say Miles should have put in their backup QB. This is the one who is not very mobile and throws a lot of interceptions (that's why he was NOT the starter). So my prediction would be that had Miles put the other guy in, the # of sacks would have gone up a whole lot, along with interceptions and maybe 'Bama would have got a couple more TDs from the defense.

Bottom line for me is Alabama's defense dominated the game and no one could have done much better than LSU. Others might have scored more, but unless their defense was a good as LSUs (doubt it), Alabama would have scored a whole lot more (instead of 5 FGs, maybe 5 TDs).

According to the sports news channels yesterday, that was the last championship game under the existing BCS guidelines. Next year will be a whole different format......Yeah, right, I'll believe it when it comes to be....
I look forward to reading more about this... The Tide did Reauxll, Monday night, I was very proud of them!

Doug, another good post by you-you're getting good at it BUT and this is a quote from a sportscaster "Lee managed the first 8 victories keeping LSU out of trouble, putting the Tigers' playmakers in a position to score — was Lee's strong suit. Through his nine starts, Lee threw 13 touchdowns to just three interceptions. He led the SEC in passing efficiency. He was Mr. Stability." The interceptions against 'Bama in the first game is what did him in. Who knows what would have happened if Lee was put in MOnday. As Bobby Hebert said "so what if he threw a pick 6-you were losing the game and would not have come back against 'Bama with Jefferson". All second guessing but prior to the 'Bama game he threw 1 interception and 13 TD's again FIVE ranked teams.

Us LSU fans will always wonder "what if."

My daughter just sent me this text:

Did you hear? The LSU team got stuck on their way back to their campus. Someone painted a 50 yard line in front of the bus.

That's not as funny as the picture of goal posts set edge to edge on the Alabama field after LSU beat them because they missed so many field goals.
