I was thinking about an aftermarket TPMS, (tire pressure monitoring system) for my DP. I've seen systems from $250-750.
Does anyone have any input, experience, stories or opinions?

Everyone has their opinions as to which one is best. I've had and used two, both from Truck System Technologies...TST. My first was the 510 system that I liked very well. However, the wheel sensors cracked after three years and began to disintegrate. A call to TST solved that problem as they offered to buy the system back and upgrade me to their latest system, the 507. The biggest difference is the 507 has a smaller, easier to read monitor and the batteries in the wheel sensors are user changeable. The 510 system is a very good, reliable system, on sale now for $299 for the 6 sensor system, but I like the convenience of being able to change the sensor batteries and the size of the monitor on the 507. Being full timers, our system is on 24/7 so the batteries only last about 1 1/2 yrs....regardless of which system you choose, IMHO, no coach should be without one..oh, I do use the repeater as I have the sensors on the toad as well and we are 65' long.....hope this helps....Dennis

Like Dennis said, "everyone has their opinions as to which one is best." We also have the TST 510 system. We have had it a year. I had one sensor malfunction and it was replaced under warranty. We also have sensors on the toad. I ordered a repeater when I ordered the system but found out that the system operated fine without it, so I returned it.

We also have the TST system. We couldn't use it for awhile since we couldn't find good valve extenders. Right now everything is working well and I like knowing what's going on with the MH and toad tires. We use a repeater.

We have an older Pressure Pro system. I can't speak about how the systems compare, but I can tell you that we wouldn't be without it.

We got a nail in an outside dually on the the rear of our 40' motorhome. We got the alert when the tire started losing air. We were able to pull into a parking lot and wait for our road service. We saved the tire, it was able to be patched by a Michelen dealer and it is still on the motorhome, 60,000 miles later.

When we are parked on our lot in south Texas, we keep the alert module in our toad. It has saved us twice, alerting us to a tire losing air. In both cases we were able to get off the road and change the tire before the tire was ruined.

When we go to the factory at Tiffin for service, it is not uncommon to see motorhomes there with damage behind the rear tire. When those tires go, they tend to take out the bin doors behind the axle. We figured one time saving a tire would pay for the system. It did and we wouldn't be without it.

Hi All.

Here I go again. I think I must be following Dennis and Debi around this morning from topic to topic. Yep, so more words of Wisdom from Dennis, as usual. We are believers in "Tire Monitoring Systems" also. I don't know why anyone wouldn't want to be warned of lossing air in a tire, or a tire that is over heating. I think most of us have a pretty good idea, of how much damage a Tire can do to a Motorhome if it blows. Not only is the damage in most cases pretty expensive to repair, but how about your down time while your Motorhome is being repaired. Espically for Full-Timmers. Another way you can look at it also is, How much did your Motorhome cost you ?. Now how much does a decent "Tire Monitoring System" cost. We don't find that a very hard choice to make for us. We would like to have some advance notice of a pending tire faliure or a tire that could blow due to being over-heated. Yes, we would say that the cost of a "Tire Monitoring System" is well worth the cost. Not to mention the peace of mind you get from them also. Just our 2 centa worth. Good Luck. Happy Travels. I wouldn't be without one. I use the TST (Had it 4 years) but there are many on the market. Buy what's right for you......

Another TST (507) user here. In my opinion... the most common reason for a tire failure is because you run over something that causes a leak and as you happily motor down the road the tire slowly loses pressure and starts to heat up. At a certain point it gets hot enough to fail in a dramatic fashion and... you find yourself in a bad situation.
After you think about that... think how nice it is to not ever wonder what your pressures are and the need to go around checking them just to be safe before you hit the road.
I purchased the TST system because of the good reviews here and it works as advertised.
I has one sensor (out of 8) arrive doa and customer service was not only there to answer questions, thet sent me a new sensor without question immediatly.
So I'm another one recommending the product.

I have the TST system, worked fine for the first 6 months, then one of the sensors went out. It also stopped reading the front tires on my tow vehicle. Moved the sensors around and still wouldn't read the front tires on tow. Called the company and they replaced the one bad sensor and replace the monitor. Still won't read the front tires, and yes I have the repeater. Wow it worked fine for 6 months, and now won't, I haven't figured out. I had new valve cores installed but haven't tried it since. As far as having a TPS, yes, I think it's a good idea, just wish mine was working 100%.
