I hide my identify because it's too easy to figure out when I'm not home, camping, or gone for a while, leaving my home vulnerable to theft or worse. I know no one on these forums would 'ever' attempt to break into my home when I'm not there. But there may be someone searching these forums who is not so upright in their character! Thus, if you don't know who I am or where I live, or when I'm home or not, I have one less thing to worry about. I live in a geographical triangle as I've put in my profile. That's close enough.

Forget the wearing ID's or hiding; You drive a licensed motor vehicle don't you? Key to everything. Heck, own a house? Anyone driving past and can just pick your address and go from there. There is NOTHING you can do to 100% protect yourself, so stop worrying about it. Vigilance over your affairs is the protection. Do shred your personal documents that you throw out (though these can still be reconstructed through some PC programs). Do not discard your failed hard drives, the data is still recoverable.

This thread is *almost* as entertaining as the song title game or 3 word sentance!.

Yeah - "sentence" - is spelled wrong to go along with the thread spelling..

I just simply don't understand this type of advice. Yes, people can find you and people can watch your house. But why make it so much easier for them? Do what you can to protect your privacy but just realize nothing is perfect. Why not just leave your front door standing open when you aren't home? Afterall, why worry about it? Why not take a classified ad out in the paper whenever you go on vacation and annouce your house is vacant? Why worry about it? I for one will take whatever reasonable precautions I can, including hiding my true identify from most on here, even though some know who I am.

I just deleted my Facebook account this morning.

The reason, they made major changes to policy and posting methods that made many of my friends un-comfortable. Many of the major friends disabled their accounts so why would I stick around? I don't know (or care) the reasons just the result.

Now, I am glad I did not give any of my personnal stuff to facebook. They will probabily just move my account (and a few hundred thousand others that also did this) into a bucket file and sell the whole darn lot for a quarter each. Junk mail on the way!

One more thing about the identity theft that I may not have mentioned. We pay LifeLock $20 ($10 each) a month and hope they will take care of us!

Yes, it has become a money-making business for those who saw "the writing on the wall" soon enough to get in on the ground floor.
I used to have a couple of those insurance policies.
Remember, the insurance company always makes a profit. ALWAYS!! They have to in order to stay in business and keep their stockholders happy!
But, hey, if it gives you peace of mind to give them some of your money to "protect" you, go for it!
