Is it normal for the water pump to turn on briefly every 20-30 minutes when the system is not in use? I think I flushed the air out, and have looked for leaks as well as any low point drains that might be full. The pump, as far as I know is a SHURflo Classic, and has been working without issue.

I'm just trying to figure out anything I might have missed, if this is not normal. There are no leaks around the city water inlet as well.

Sure sounds like a leak somewhere. I've only known the pump to come on when the pressure drops from a leak. Doesn't take much for it to trigger the pump to come on.

The only two things I can think of is that maybe I didn't flush the air out completely, or that some debris (plastic chip perhaps when the holes in the tank were drilled) got stuck in the check valve or pump. I wonder if this would be the culprit. Would air in the system cause this, if there were any?

Check the valve in your toilet where it dumps into the black tank, even a small amount of debris or paper can prevent the valve from closing completely, causing the fresh water valve to allow a slow leak. I used a metal coat hanger (wire) to gently clean the channel that the valve slides into, removed a small amount of paper and have not had the problem again. JH

You have a leak. It's either dripping somewhere, or the pump's internal check valve is letting some water seep back into the fresh water tank.

My pump would do that same thing...run for about 2 seconds every 20-30 minutes.

Are you able to visually check each fitting thru out the whole plumbing system?

I couldn't until I removed a false wall in basement compartment....found one fitting that showed signs of leak (white mineral on outside of fitting). Tighten it.......still had pump run occasionally. I crawled over/under/into every nook & crannie looking for that 'leak'. No luck.

Then we were hooked up to 'city water' and couple days later water was running out from rig behind tires....fresh water tank overflow. Ah ha......the elusive leak. Pulled pump out....opened it up and found small debris on check valve...cleaned it up reassembled. No more......burrrrrrrrp from pump.

This may be due to temperature change, water expands when it gets hot shrinks when it gets cold. My tt did this in real cold weather with the heat turned down to 50, when I turned the heat to 70 the pump never cycled again.

The easy stuff it to TOUCH every fitting you can - including the low point drains, (dust flower on your hands first), and check for pinhole leaks. The next thing is to service / replace the check valve on the pump. This is assuming the freshwater fill is off, and all the valves are closed.

If there is air in the system the pump will run longer, and less often. The air will hold pressure better then the water in the lines.

I had an intermittant leak near my pump that dripped into an inaccessable area and took days before it dripped out the bottom to confirm where the water was going.

Not true......water expands/swells when hot (actually above 42*) contracts when it is below 40* and then expands when it freezes (32*).
Strange thing..water
