I am looking for anyone with experience with dental implants with someone in Progreso. So far I have had experience with Dr. Mustre for a crown and was satisfied but not sure about his experience with implants.

As someone who was in the dental business since 1966 in South Texas, I WOULD NOT have aby dental procedures done in any part of Mexico. Progresso dentyal clinics are 1960's dental offices. Many do not have proper sterilization equipment and there are no controls from the state or country.
I did some charity work in Progresso at one of the better clinics there and was shocked at the procedures and the experience of the dentists

I agree!!!
I got my dental implants in AZ and the dentist has a good price, and reasonable insurance you can buy, for better rate for dental procedures. He is also a very good dentist.
I would never even think of getting this done in Mexico or any third world country.

No disrespect intended to the OP... and the phrase "present company excepted" certainly applies to my rather strict comments below...

You must be out of your mind to walk/drive across the boarder to Mexico and spend any time in these "boarder cities" FOR ANYTHING - let alone for something as sensitive as drilling into the bone of your jaw (or whatever that bone mass is called)and that whole procedure in general. I have a friend that did it - the "dentist" drilled where stateside dentists warned him not to, due to width of bone or whatever. The implant failed, got infected and he ended up in the hospital. I don't care how many folks tell ya "ahhh... no big deal...go ahead...I did.... turned out great.... And don't get me started on personal SAFETY ISSUES these days in most of those boarder towns. Say what ya will about the AMA or the ADA and all the US GOVERNMENT agencies there to protect us - I'll get my health care from providers under their jurisdiction.

No .... really.... that's how I feel about it!

The concerns that all of you have raised are the same concerns that I have about this as well and what prompted my question.

That said, here is my U.S. experience with dentists. Our dentist at our home in Florida screwed up three root canals between my wife and I. Unfortunately, the problems didn't reveal themselves until a couple of years later and all three had to be re-done later. Of the two that I had re-done one has failed and had to be pulled two months later. The other still gives me moderate pain and will likely have to come out.

A crown on a molar he did failed after a couple of years. Had it replaced in Palm Desert 10 months ago at a cost of $1,100 and it failed. When it failed we were in Ohio for a couple of days and I did not have time to get it replaced. Due to sensitivity went to a dentist there who informed that the previous dentist made the chewing surface too thin because he didn't grind enough tooth off. The Ohio dentist made a temp repair that would supposedly get me to my next stop where I would have time to get it replaced at a cost of $300. Two days later chewing a piece of soft bread it broke.

Since we went full time three years ago. The problems created by the Florida dentist came back to haunt me and I have had to see dentists, oral surgeons, and endodontists all over the west.

I haven't picked those folks looking for the cheapest but did what I could to get recommendations for the best care in whatever community I have been in. What I have found is that frequently the care you get in the US isn't all that good. So what is the ADA, FDA getting me? It certainly isn't getting me competent care. It isn't getting any of my money back and lawyers aren't going to get it back either.

Three crowns on the same tooth from three dentists in 5 years is ridiculous. I have several other crowns with no problems so it isn't me.

So while I share your concerns about implants I don't have real concerns about bridges, crowns and filings.

I do appreciate your thoughts.

I have received very good dental care in the USA. I checked them out before I had anything done. Talked to people and they also recommended. I have two dentist. One in Colorado and one in AZ and both are very very good. They both do implants, crowns, and cosmetic dentistry. All dental procedures.
I did not shop for the cheapest dentist but the best dentist.
I have crowns on all my upper teeth, and have all been there for years, and some implants on bottom. I get my teeth cleaned every 3 months. Take very good care of my teeth.
Very satisfied with both of those dentist.

Not sure what your point is. I never said that all dentists in the US are bad. In fact, my last dentist in Florida was good. I found a great one in a small town in South Dakota.

I also said that I haven't shopped for cheapest dental care in the US but instead looked for the best by reputation relying on internet research and what local input I could get.

My point is that like everything else some are good and some are bad. I have been surprised how many bad ones I have found. Perhaps it is just my luck. But at this point I would like to stop throwing money away.

Finally, I am just looking for input from anyone with experience with implants. I have the same concerns about personal safety and the quality of the dental care in Mexico. However, I have been to Progreso twice now and feel very safe in that town.

Sorry if you thought I was attacking what you said. Maybe you should have been more clear on your post and would have understood your post better.
No one shops for a dentist or doctor to find the bad ones. Some are out there but think people would find better health care and dentist in USA where there are better regulations on them.

I have 9 crowns made by several dentists including my brother-in-law 45 years ago. Most have never been a problem and others have needed to be re cemnted srveral times. From what I have been told it depends on how the prei can be done and is done. Not all teeth provide the proper rough material to provide proper prep. Also just because a root canal had to be done over after several years as you stated does not mean it was done incorrectly the first time. My wife had a tooth done 3 times over 20 years and finally opted to pull the tooth as 2 specialists told her it might abcess again. When consulting my retired brother-in-law he stated it does happen a small percentage of the time, and he agreed to the pulling....which he wanted to do 10 years earlier. Medicine of any kind is never perfect...thats why they have a PRACTICE. lol
