Stopped at my Honda dealer to look at the 2012 CRV. I asked to see an owners manual and read that it is indeed still towable with the same well known shifting procedure.

Car seems pretty nice. Sits about the same, seems a little bigger, 17" wheels, more power, better MPG (How do they do that?), way better stereo with USB.

I have an 07 and I think I'll keep it awhile. The one I looked at and sat in was the every option available NAVI leather version and it stickered out at over $33K.

We have a 2000 we bought new and put 200,000 mile plus 100,000 towing. Best car we ever had but the wife wants a 2012.

We take delivery on a 2012 CR-V FWD just after Christmas. No one has base plates yet. Both Roadmaster and Blue-Ox say Mid Feb 12 or as late as end of March. Owners manual confirms both FWD and AWD are dinghy towable. I did not expect anything else as the 2012 model has the same transmission as the 2011.

pdboggs,

We just took delivery on an '11 CRV 4WD and, I purchased a base plate from etrailer.com, along with an 2" receiver hitch and wiring for the rear. One of the other gents on another forum I was conversing with was informed by a Honda tech that structurally, the frame etc was not changed on the '12s. The engine is the same as well as the trans. The 4WD system has been changed from a mechanical link to an electronic. The body is actually 1" shorter and the top is shorter by around an inch. But, the interior is the same size and in fact, has around 6 more cubic feet.

Anyway, since the frame (unibody)supposedly had no changes, I'd almost bet an '11 base plate will fit without any issues. But, it's kind of gamble. I just finished installing the base plate and it really was pretty straight forward. The front end (grill etc), under skin/air dam has to be removed and a tad bit of cutting on the webbing and tips of the steel bumper but, that's about it.

We almost waited for a '12 but, there was too much uncertainty about exact delivery dates and, like you've found out, there were no base plates available. Our '11 is really nice. Quiet, smooth, (as smooth as a car that size can be on our really nice California roads, ha ha.) So far, after a two weeks of ownership, we're both really happy we got it.

I just brought home a 2011 CRV ex-l that I found on the internet with navi and 5,700 miles.

I installed the base plate by Roadmaster on my Buick Enclave and there was a video on step by step removal.
SCOTT: Did you find a video or just started working? Not really sure that I want to tow this vehicle, maybe on a dolly, but I want a trailer hitch. Any problems install that?

OK we got the 2012 CR-V just after Christmas. 1st impressions > very satisfied. We've put 7K driving on it and 300 towing. City/Hwy combined avg. is about 29mpg (in Texas Hill Country). Had the Roadmaster base plates installed about 3 weeks ago. I had done previous installs but this one was somewhat of a task (both my perception from reviewing the instructions and according to the installer). Tracks very nicely and the wife has become a back-up guru using the B/U camera on the CR-V :-)
Only complaint is that the light leather interior is easily discolored by blue jeans but this is not unique to Honda as I understand.
