Been running this combination ok until couple days ago. Then machine would freeze, requiring cold boot to restart. removed norton problem went away- anyone else having similar problems?

and question 2, currently have AVG (free) and malwarebytee (free) in place - is that enough?

I've been running Norton Internet Security for about 4 years now and this year got the Norton 360 and after the install and restart Win 7 Professional would not start and it took like 20min for the repair routine to get my computer to just start and then I lost my identity safe login toolbar and that took like another 5 or 6 update scans to finally get things working again. This year has given me the most problems with installing and getting Norton up and running.

Been running Norton for years (15+, at least...). But always just individual programs, not the "suites". Have never heard anything good about the suites, but have never had anything bad happen with the individual programs.

Maybe they just don't like each other? Or the programs are too intrusive for their own good?

Don't know..... I do like Norton AV, though.

Used Norton 360 for two years. Liked it for the Back up, but then one day it decided to back up some 15000 files that we did not want to back up. We could not get rid of them by delete a folder we had to delete all 15000 individual files. Not too likely, I won't live long enough. So, then as we ran out of storage they wanted to sell us more. Not too likely.
Then they were going to renew us for twice as much as you could buy the Norton 360 in a local retail store.
Long story short. Norton is gone.

We now use Windows Essential and it seems to work fine and we do our own back ups.

Norton WAS top dog years ago and has been implicated in poor performance and a resource hog, plus poor protection for today's bugs/viri, etc...
I use NOD 32 and have no issues with Win 7 64 bit and Ultimate...

Were you running AVG and Norton? Never run two antivirus programs at the same time, that almost always causes problems. I was IT manager for 15 yrs and I do not like Norton products, I would stay with the AVG.

Years ago Peter Norton's, Norton offering was the way to go. Today's Norton offered by Symantec should be avoided as it is a poor, problematic offering for the most part.

That might be your personal opinion, but it's not shared by those comparing the various internet security packages where Norton HERE beat out all the competitors in almost every category.
