We are still learning the ins and outs of our new dp.

We dump the air before we level, but I'm not sure exactly how much air to dump? All of it? I've normally been going down to about 50.

What is the reasoning behind dumping air?

I usually let mine go down to around 30. The reason for dumping is it lowers the coach and the jacks have less travel to level the coach.

Our owner's manual also says that dumping air takes some of the load off the airbags which it says is beneficial if the coach will be parked for an extended period of time.

I figure if I'm going to dump the air I might as well dump all of it. Why leave any air in the air bags since it doesn't take that long to air up when you get ready to leave.

I dump it all. But that doesn't mean your system is empty. The reservoir is still pressurized and the brakes are still under pressure. You can dump, then press the brake pedal until the reservoir is empty and make sure the E brake stays on even if someone should turn it off.

Keeping the step as low as possible my thought as well. I dump it all.

Gents,
Just wondering, if as many of you say, you are dumping all or part of the air, how are you doing it? Are you by any chance using HWH control panel? If so, doesn't the "dump" button on that panel do it for a predetermined amount of time anyway? On mine, it does not dump all the air, just the bags. And, if I push the "On" button a second time and hold it for approximately 2-3 seconds, it "auto-dumps, and after about 20-25 seconds, the auto leveling takes over and the jacks start lowering. Just wondering here.

My thoughts would be to open the drain cocks on the air tanks to make sure you get all the water out if any in the tanks rather than using the brake pedal to empty all the air if that is what you want to do. I was taught at an "Air Brake" course that the best time to dump water out of the tanks is at the end of a driving day. This accomplishes two things, gets rid of any water and gets rid of all the air if that is what you want to do.
