We have friends that own the 2008 Cardinal rear kitchen model. They like it, but the fact that they have had trouble with it, bothers me. One thing that occured around a year after buying it, is the frame cracked. Yes, it cracked at the place where the wheels are. It cost them between one and two thousand dollars to have it all welded back together. Oh, there are other things, but that was the biggest thing. Another couple has had a problem with their 2010, in that the seal around the slide out, came undone.

Thank you all for your great answers. We decided to spend a little extra and buy a 2011 Heartland Bighorn 2985rl. Can't wait to get out and play.

We looked at the Bighorn when looking at Cardinals and just could not make a deal with a dealer. Good luck and have a lot of fun.

More than happy with our 2008 Cardinal 30 RKLE. Great layout, easy towing, Not too big not too small. No issues and we average 50 nights x 3 years so far. Had plans of upgrading to a Cameo but with their demise I will hang on to the Cardinal as I have not seen anything to trade up to yet.

Our 03 Cardinal has been a good unit, only issue has been the China tires.

Hope you are on 3rd set of tires by now. Cheap tires should be long gone

I can not complain about my 08 Cardinal. I would however make sure the tires have been replaced with GoodYear 614. That year they put on China tires very bad move. For more info check out the cardinal rv club forum www.cardinalrvclub.org

The original owner of my 05 had 3 tires blow out. the maker of the tires replaced all five with the tire of their choice and paid to fix all the damage to the camper.

If your buting a Cardinal your absolutly on the right track,i know several "Big Bird" owners who are thrilled with their rigs but i've heard from a few rear kitchen owners that putting the kitchen in the rear of the fiver' causes things to shake like crazy due to leverage and none of them would buy another or reccomend anyone to.

i presently own a 2009 cardinal 3100rk. This is the rear kitchen model they made that year. It had only one problem and that was a problem shared by most of the rear kitchen models. They didnot build the big slide which holds the refrigerator, dining table and sofa with enough reinforcement. Ours was about 1.5 inches out of level. Cardinal had us bring it to elkhart to make the needed repairs and paid to deliver it back to us in Baton Rouge, la. Great service! We've put about 25-30 thousand miles on the unit and it pulls very well with a 2500hd silverado duramax. This is our 3rd Cardinal in 7 years. No problems, just wanted different floor plans. We were well pleased with all of our units. Having said that, we just ordered a new Kz stone ridge 38fl. We went to the tampa show, saw it and fell in love with it. we got a real good trade in on the Cardinal, it held it's value well. 1st 2 cardinals had blowouts on Chinese tires, very costly experience. On the 3100rk we install bridgestone duravis tires. Don't worry about tires anymore. The stone ridge was ordered with goodyear 614's and when it gets here i'll check to see where they were made. I may have to change them right away, also. I have learned the hard way not to scrimp on tires.
