Five found dead in RV

An unfortunate and sad accident. It pays to be sure the exhaust from the generator is dealt with properly.

ALWAYS make sure you have a battery operated carbon monoxide detector whenever a genset is in use around a living area.

I would be interested in knowing the particulars of the generator setup. It is simple enough to point the exhaust away from the trailer, preferably downwind, but strange things happen in close quarters, and wind direction could change.

It is also unfortunate that the reporter was not more descriptive of how the CO leaked inside. One also has to wonder why the CO detector was not alarming.

According to the article not all of them went to bed at the same time so you would assume the alarm would be ringing. I had one go off in the trailer one night and I can tell you it is hard to ignore.

I'm not that big on CO detectors for larger houses but, for hauses (1000 sq/ft for sure) and RV's they are a must.

"It appears a small storage hatch on the RV did not close properly, allowing fumes from the generator to leak inside the vehicle, Langford said."

Another article said it was fumes from the RV next door...I wonder what the actual truth is...?

So Sad to hear this

I saw a quick report on the news (not sure what channel) in the video it looked like they had a portable construction type generator on the ground next to the trailer. It looked like the exhaust was facing a compartment door that was not latched and hanging loose? The gen appeared to be within a foot or two of the trailer.

Yeah, I saw that too, but it is hardly descriptive. If its like one of the other posters said and they had the exhaust point towards an opening in the TH, that might explain it.

I haven't seen a recent trailer without a CO detector. Again I wonder whether the unit was working or not...

I don't know how they would sleep with a "construction" type generator blaring away. Very sad.
