Pain is my number one reson for leaving Portland and going to Arizona in the winter a spring. Mine is from degerative back diease. Worked hard all my life and lubar discs are gone. Now it stenosis which is helped with an on board pain pump. Now, my latest ache is my Achilles Tendons are swollen and make it hard to walk. If you have a trick to make the swelling go down and aleviate pain, let me know. I am waiting to see the Dr. but they all seem to give you the bums rush the older I get.

Getting older is a bear. Trying to keep a good attitude when you constantly feel like you've been run over by a truck is even harder to do.

Yup! The mental aspect is the hardest. 49 years old. Had L3-S1 fused at 34. L2 is now extruded. Need cortisone injections in both shoulders annually. Have bad knees, developing carpal tunnel and a bad elbow. High blood pressure, high cholesterol (I'm 5'11" 165lbs so it's not like I'm fat), low testosterone and low kidney function. Can't take any nsaids because of the kidney function and don't like to take any opiates. I do drink a lot and Michigan now has legal Medical Marijuana so that may be in my future (damn the bad luck!)

Several years ago, bought a pontoon boat and this past summer my first travel trailer. Both are difficult physically and financially for me to keep up, but the pleasure I get from them really helps keep me going! For now anyway

The really ironic thing is, I look like I'm 30! People meet me and have no idea how old I am or that anything is wrong with me. I was nominated for "least changed" at my 30th class reunion and only lost because one of my classmates doesn't have gray hair (I've been coloring for like, forever) so I told everyone he deserved to win.

This thread reminds me of the saying where if everyone threw their problems in a big pile, we'd all grab our own back as soon as we saw the others! I keep telling myself it could always be worse. That works best when I have a cold drink in my hand! It's nice to see how many there are in the RV community that don't let it stop them. It's always easier to sit around feeling sorry for yourself than it is to get out and keep trying to enjoy life. Keep it up, everyone!

There's nothing wrong with old age, as long as you get there, without ALL the aches and pains. Me triple by-pass, Ischemic Heart Disease from Agent Orange. Type 2 Diabetes also from AO, Insomnia from Post traumatic Stress Disorder, Neuropathy and Drop Foot syndrome plus 4 or 5 other things all related from service in NAM, but we just came off l2 weeks in NM & Co. I'm 70 years young but will be slowing down. Not ready to give up the RV.

Thank you for your service.

I believe Montel Williams was a Marine (in some branch anyway), has a degenerative disease (MS or MD) and was on Dr. Oz awhile back on the subject of medical M. Seems to me...if it's legal in CA and it HELPS why not? Medicine and poison is a matter of dosage. Many herbs, including M were used for medicinal purposes long before someone figured out they could get a buzz on. So... MM being legal in CA... your being a retired cop becomes a moot point. It's all a matter of perspective. No one expects you to suffer when you don't have to.

I have to agree with covet. Seems to me if M worked to ease pain and was better than pain pills etc. why not. Maybe if it were in pill form or juice form it would be easier to take, not only physically, but mentally too.

A relative of mine knows a Vietnam Vet who developed MS years after his tour of duty. The man has totally incapacitating muscle pain and an Rx massage creme that contains Medical M is the only thing that relieves it. Of course, he has to have a masseuse apply it. I'm glad there is something that improves the poor guy's quality of life as the disease will eventually take him, anyway. He is here in California.

Well...back in the day... lots of folks were putting it in brownies and making tea. So... doesn't have to be smoked to have it work. I hadn't heard about MM massage creme. Right now I've got a few back aches that could use something besides ibuprofen. I use that with pepcid to avoid stomach ulcers and pain. I had a rather elderly relative who had a "nip of brandy" every night "for medicinal purposes".

We've got lots of stuff out there that can help people. New discoveries are made all the time that show foods working as well or better than drugs to alleviate all manner of things. I saw something the other day about high doses of Omega 3's that helped with arthritis. My DS has been taking astaxanthin daily for several months and now he doesn't use his contacts anymore! And his back quit hurting him. Says he feels years younger. Pretty amazing.
