We are home from our 2 mo trip to AK. 3 coaches and 3 couples later with lots of wonderful memories. Even with all the picture we have non of them will ever be able to truly show Alaska's beauty but it is forever in our minds. We now understand why so many people can't wait to return.
All 6 of us discussed what our favorite day was and we all agreed it was the day we went on the day long Major Marine Tour from Seward. The people were fabulous as was the all you can eat Prime Rib and Salmon Feast. Hope others enjoyed it as much as we did.

Alaska is wonderful. I know you had a grand trip. I'd love to see your pics.
We haven't taken the marine tour, but hope to remember this, for our next trip. We haven't made it home, yet, as we are traveling down the west coast. I am hoping to be back in Tennessee before my birthday, 9/29.

Our best memory so far is the beauty of the Kenai Pennisla. Mountains, volcancs, glaciers and water. Sure was nice. We are now in Valdez and will be home by 3rd week of sept. Just lovin'it.

I'm somewhat partial to Kodiak, AK, since I live here. Mostly because it is out of the way. People don't just stop-over... Kodiak is a destination, if you ever make it here. But I always love to see others pictures of AK, to see it throught their eyes! I haven't been around alot of the state, but what I have, Ihave truly enjoyed. The Last Frontier, is really true about Alaska!
Thanks for the memories!

garryk6; I have never been fortunate enough to go to Kodiak, AK but really hope that the DW and I get to go there someday. On our last trip to Alaska, while driving up the Alaska Highway and while camped at the FAMCAMP at Elmendorf AFB, we ran into three different Coastie families who had been transferred from Kodiak to other commands. One other family who we met at Dawson Creek was enroute to Kodiak for a two year tour. They were thrilled. Not so the other three families. Each wished to remain there because of the laid back life style, good family atmosphere for kids and good duty for the Coast Guardsman. Says something about the place, I think!

Yes it does! I am a retired Navy Submariner and fellow Chief. Retired as a MMCM in 2007, and moved to Kodiak from Bangor, WA. Haven't regretted it. It is a great place to raise kids, and I still have 4 at home, and they love the freedom that Kodiak allows, as well as the ruggedness of camping, fishing and hiking. Though they do miss the sun of WA summers and San Diego Summers. Sometimes the rain gets a bit old, but that is what makes Kodiak the "Emerald Isle".
Thanks and good luck!

Our best day & memory of 2009: The Bear Walk at Stewart & Hyder.
It's pretty hard to impress DS but when he saw our pictures of the bears, he said we need to have enlargments made & frame them.

I agree wholeheartedly with the OP. We've been in AK since mid-May, and that was my favorite day (so far). As well as the buffet, the crew pulled a chunk of glacier out of the water and made Margaritas ("Glacier-ritas"), which were delicious! Also loved the sea otters and whales!

We're still on the journey and the jury hasn't yet completed its deliberations .... and it would have a tough job.
The Kenai Fjords tour out of Seward is certainly a memory of a lifetime - but so is Muncho Provincial Park, Dawson City, Tombstone Mountains, Top of the World highway, Denali and Homer - pretty much everywhere we have gone our expectations have been exceeded. Still to come are Kluane, Haines, Skagway and the Cassiar highway.
I don't think it is possible to say that there will be one spot that can outshine all the rest - its the whole trip ..... even the potholes and the frost heaves!!!
Thanks ..... and still snappin' pictures .....

Flew up last summer with the GKs 8 and 10, rented and drove around for three weeks. I think that the kids will remember Summer Solstice at the Arctic Circle and the Native Heritage Center in Anchorage more than anything else. Hope they get to go back, we barely scratched the surface with them, the other BIG thing for them was the 13 hour bus trip to the end of the road in Denali NP, they saw so many animals there and just had a ball. We drove up in 2000 and I don't think I could pick a best day. The worst day I had was on a cruise to Adak from Pearl Harbor, putting the ensign up on the turtleback I got to go swimming, it is very cold in the water in November.
