My wife and I are thinking that we might switch cell phone providers. I have Nextel's right now. We pay about $90 a month but we don't have text or internet or anything. We have thought about Verizon or cricket. Does anyone have any input on these two.

$90/month and you are just now thinking of changing. If you are using Nextel it must of been for business use of the two-way feature. Verizon does have a two-way feature but if that is unneeded try Virgins pre pay, you can get 300 minutes (more are available) voice and unlimited text and data for $30/month. Since they are owned by Sprint, the same owners of Nextel you will pretty much get the same coverage you get now. Verizon does have much better coverage but will cost you more.

Verizon would likely have the best coverage overall, especially in rural areas. Since you don't use data, then a good alternative to look at would be PagePlusCellular which uses the Verizon network, but allows you to chose either monthly plans from $29.99(1,200 minutes/2,000 texts), or pay-as-go from 0.04-0.10 per minute with roll over minutes. Gives you the benefit of Verizon network without the higher cost. You can port your existing phone nos., and even bring a Verizon phone for use on PagePlusCellular, except for Verizon's pay as you go phones or the iPhone.

Has anyone used Trac Fone?
They had a deal on HSN last night for this phone LG Touchscreen Prepaid 2MP Camera Phone with 1200 Minutes for $99.95...Here is a link
I have been using Verizon for over 7 years now. I am begining to think it's not worth $79.24 a month for 2 phones and only 750 min. between the two phones. The plan we have they no longer offer and the keep wanting us to change plans for more money and less minutes each month.

For our use in the SW USA, Verizon is the only way to go. We get (got) Verizon service where before our ATT wouldn't work except in a very specific spot in the CG if at all. Mostlly not at all. In 2 full years of Verizon from MN to Louisianato TX, NM to AZ back to KS, NB to Mn we have only been without service 3 times and computer only 1 time. We mostly travel the 2 lane state roads and sometimes the US roads. There is little doubt that if you travel the freeways mostly, you will probably have service most of the time with any phone service.
Cricket uses someones plan, which I believe is true, they probably work best in a larger city area than in rural. That is only my guess.

Are you wanting to get a smart phone for internet capability and maybe include texting? If so Verizon or AT&T is the only way to go. If you just want cell service there are several inexpensive plans from several providers. I used to have AT&T cell only service with rollover minutes and I never even came close to running over. I think it was $29 a month and $10 for an extra phone. I guess you've figured out you're paying way, way too much for having only cell service.

As far as coverage goes, check out the various providers web sites. They all have coverage maps. Look up the areas where you want service. As an earlier poster said, Verizon is the way to go in the west. We've had voice and 3G data coverage in some pretty remote areas like our site 10 miles north of Show Low, AZ and Tombstone.

I have AT&T and my hubby uses a Tracfone, which works well for him, as he doesn't talk on a cellphone much. The signal is about the same for either one in my estimation. ATT isn't the best, but I have a cheap plan and only keep it because of that, $29.99/mo. with $3 off for having it billed with my homephone. 350 anytime minutes, plus 3500 nights and weekends. Never go over.

Verizon 450 minutes is $39.95 plus tax and fees is roughly $45.
Has never failed me in all these years.

I prefer Verizon, being a major and reliable service. JMO
