Well fellas (and any ladies into this stuff)... for what its worth, the better half and I have committed to our first coach. We are moving up from a 5th wheel. Taking delivery this thursday of a Monaco Knight 40pbq which has the Maxxforce engine in it.

I appreciate all the replies and am definitely interested in any more stuff I ought to know. We take delivery this thursday afternoon, and are gonna "break the rules" and head out on a major trip a day or two later.

Constructive disagreement is encouraged. It is how I/we learn!

Cat got out of the on-road market because of emissions. Some of the Maxxforce engines are using Cat blocks according to a local International dealer.

Yes. The MAXX-Force 15 is based on the old C15. The 10, however, is not: it's based on International's DT570. (The Maxx-Force DT is the legendary DT466.) I would buy a Maxx-Force 10 in a second.

I get a kick out of a poster saying that Monaco can not ship or sell the Maxxforce 10 until late summer, when the factory rep told me they are only building and shipping the Maxxforce 10 because they are OUT of ISL engines. Now there is a person that is taking delivery of one this week and I saw one on the dealers lot here in Idaho this weekend. Amazing the false info on this thread.

The 466 was probably the best engine ever put in farm tractors.

The company I used to work for used a DT466 in a single axle city tractor to haul 48,000 lbs of paint/glue back to the local terminal every day.. Ran just fine .
A little slow on the big hill but trotted along nicely on most roads. If the Max 10 is built on that technology , most likely it will be a strong engine

The 2011 ISL is 450 HP and 1250 ft. lbs. of torque. Other than Monaco I cannot find anyone using a bigger block like the Max 10 in a MH. Not Fleetwood, Newmar, Thor or Tiffin. Navistar may have lots of service centers but it will take them awhile to properly service MH's. Most Cummins dealers are used to putting on clean coverallas, wearing booties and clean gloves and using special carpet coverings. Cummins can also service your gennie at the same time as the engine. I remember when Cat tried to get into the MH business with the C7. Horrible choice!! Then we had those Mercedes diesels that would not pass emission tests and many were repowered before they were sold!! The jury is still out on the 2 opposing emission systems. I wonder if the Navistar units will have a large enough rad to handle the EGR power plant. I guess time will tell. One poster mentioned Navistar school buses. 4 of them pass our house 3 times a day. I dont know which engine is used in these buses but you can hear the turbo winding up a 1/4 mile away. Noisy as heck.

Many IH school buses used the VT365 (6.0) or the MAXX-Force 7 (6.4 TT)...both have very loud turbochargers.

The DT-series of International engines are the best medium-duty diesels ever built.

I know very little about any of these engines. I do know a gentleman pulled in next to me a little over a week ago in his brand new Endeavor and he was happy it had the Maxforce engine. It was a large coach with tag axle so must have had adequate power. He just bought it at Quartzite. He commented that his engine did not need UREA. Actually to be accurate he said that "pollution crap" and I assumed.
