Wanting satellite service in my RV I ordered a Dish VIP 211k receiver from Camping World on line. The next day I received an Email from Camping World telling me the receiver was on back order and maybe would ship in 3 to 4 weeks. Not wanting to wait the 4 weeks I canceled the order.

I went on line (EBay) and purchased the same receiver from a Dish Network reseller. This is the exact same receiver, new in the box as sold by Camping World. I installed the receiver and then called DishForMyRV to activate it and purchase programming. “This is where the fun started”

I was told they could not activate the receiver, as I did not buy it from them. I explained that I tried but that did not help. Two days, many calls and hours later, including several talks with a supposed supervisor, they still would not activate the receiver. Several times I was told to purchase another new receiver from them and they could activate it. THEY WERE CLEARLY TRYING TO SELL ME ANOTHER NEW RECEIVER.

Refusing to purchase another new receiver I took the receiver to a local Dish Network dealer and in 20 minutes he had the receiver activated and my month-to-month account set up.

I don't get it. Why didn't you have the reseller you bought it from activate it in the first place?

I contacted the reseller who was in LA. three times and they said Dish Network had to activate it and they were just giving me a hard time and that since Pace is now involved with Dish Network this is now a problem. They did not want to activate a receiver unless purchased from them or someone they had an agreement with.

Dude, you bought a receiver from an unlicensed third party, I wouldn't activate it either. How does Dish know it was stolen and then resold? You should have dealt with Dish directly and you wouldn't have had any problems.

I think I would have told Mr. Supervisor from the get go, either you activate it or I'm going with DirecTV.

It's always better to skip the 3rd party and go directly with Dish, we just take a receiver from the house and use it in the MH no problems.

Apparently, Dishformyrv" is a reseller of Dish network. It is common for resellers to have exclusive rights to sell or rent hardware. There are many companies you cannot skip the middleman and deal with the ultimate supplier. They make some of their money off the sale and rental of the equipment, which is why they are able to offer deals on the service.

Well for one answer I have cable at home and only wanted the DishForMyRv service for my motor home.

For the second answer "nowhere" on any web site do they say you must buy the receiver from them. To prove that I was able to get it activated by another Dish re-seller.

I say they just wanted to sell me a new receiver and that is very near a fraud on the consumer!

What would have really made them barf is if you had cancelled your subscription and went with Direct TV.

This is nothing new.. cell phone companies did this for years. Same phone couldn't be activated on a different carrier unless it was bought from them.

DishForMyRV is just a reseller of the service and they only sell their service to people who bought their receiver from them. I don't see how it is fraud, if you don't want to use their service then get your service from Dish Network and don't buy their receiver.

Personally, I was using my last two years of camping trips to figure out if DishForMyRV was worth it... With them and my last two years of camping I'd have paid for 10 months of service each year for between 40-50 days of use/camping. I don't look forward to the hassle of activating the service every trip plus not getting network channels while I travel with DishForMyRV. I think it is a better deal to do one of Dish's cheap month-to-month service plans with network channels. Overall it'll cost me about $30 more a year to have the month to month plan but I feel I come out ahead.
